The Bill Beaumont Cup has a strange format now.

Six teams in each of the North and South divisions, but each team only plays three games in each division. You don't play every team in the division (at least in one season). Not only that, you may have 2 away games and 1 home or vice versa.

It seems that the draw can significantly influence your chances of progressing to the final.

Devon have 2 home games, but a tough away game against Gloucestershire. The home game v Cornwall will be tough.

Cornwall have 2 away games starting away at Kent. Their home game is against Hertfordshire who made the final last year.

Gloucestershire seem to have the most favoured draw.

Lets hope the Green and Whites can get a win today

Well. Game 1 didn't quite deliver to expectations for Devon!!

Anyhow - onto next week (at "home" to Hampshire)

Cornwall did manage a narrow win against Kent. Well done!

I'm looking forward to the clash at Brixham. It may not be a great game due to the restricted time that the teams have together but the occasion and atmosphere should be brilliant. In my mind, the County Championship still has its important place in the rugby calendar. Well done the players who put themselves forward after a long, hard season.

Devon's team to face Hampshire at Okehampton tomorrow has been announced.

Mugford joins Crouch and the two Kelly's in the starting line up, and Cam Setter is added on the bench.

No Honiton players in the squad.

A "must win" for Devon.

Devon 30 - 27 Hampshire.

Mugford opened the scoring with a try, and closes it with a monster penalty kick to win the game (with the last kick of the game). John Kelly and Billy Pinkus x2 also scored tries for Devon.

Well done!

Cornwall also beat Hertfordshire easily.

Onto next week.

Pity the Devon v Cornwall game isn't at Brickfields.

Would have been a bumper crowd and a great atmosphere, Brixham not easy to get to especially from deepest Cornwall.

The teams have been announced for the Devon v Cornwall match on Saturday.

Dan Mugford, Cam Setter and John Kelly are not in the squad, but Frank Kelly and Ashlee Crouch are.

Cornwall has three Albion players - John Dawe, Fraser Honey and (on the bench) Seti Raumakita.

Should be a great game.

Here is some information on car parking for those making the trip.

Cornwall beat Devon 50 - 20 and go on to Twickenham.

Hampshire lost to Kent and currently foot the table.

All credit to Devon who kept going until the very end but Cornwall looked very good especially in the second half. It was an excellent occasion and a good game considering both teams have had limited time together. All credit too to Brixham Rugby Club for all the hard work that obviously went into preparing for the event. Good job! Good luck Cornwall in the final!
