Great Balls of Fire - Episode 5
By Angel Shark
March 3 2009
In the absence (again) of any match reports, reviews, comments here we go with the next exciting episode of our Mills and Boon/RFU story. This episode comes with a "not for the young or the prudish" warning!

Considering the highly promoted sponsorship deal between the RFU and Mills and Boon, I'm not sure why sportsnetwork decided to CENSOR AAS piece.
Micky take, yes
Tongue in cheek, yes
Filling a void created by lack other contributions yes
Rugby related, well, off-field, yes
Unsuitable for a sportsnetwork board NO!

Angie was good enough to send me a copy of the censored article yesterday and IMHO it was not substantially more risgué than her previous Mills and Boon stylised pieces.

I'm quite surprised Sportsnetwork found it necessary to censor it rather than make discrete enquiries as to whether more traditional fare would be on offer following the conclusion of her tale.

Would a post with the same content be similarly censored?
I doubt they would dare!
With AAS's permission i would happily post it for the benefit of other rugby followers who found Angel's series on "how ladies might perceive rugby players in comparison to footballers" most amusing!

Could Eds perhaps have a word with Sportsnetwork about their heavy-handed approach and refer them to the sponsorship link-up. Or perhaps we should get in touch with M&B and The RFU; it might well embarass someone!

Well, what happened to that?
I wasn't quick enough to read it before it got censored?
Must have been pretty racey?
Angel, you'll have to send me a copy via email please?

I've been giving this a lot of thought today and have come up with the following...

The thread/story was originally started by CE to take the mickey out of the RFU/M&B - I just picked up the tale and continued writing it. I kept writing 'episodes/chapters' as no-one else seemed to be bothered about writing anything else.

Having spoken recently and in the past to many people who read the board, many say they don't post/don't post any more as they are put off by the sniping and whinging that goes on. People who are optimistic, have a sense of humour or just don't think they have massive rugby knowledge are put off, and so the board seems to be becoming an unequal spilt with moaners in the majority.

There are a few people on here who have LOTS of time on their hands for whatever reason - they must have as they seem to have a post ready to answer each one put on the board. But you don't have to have lots of time on your hands. An article can stay on for TWO WEEKS so even if you only get chance to do a few lines every few days then please don't let that put you off. It doesn't have to be fact-filled or a massive historic document or world-changing, just something that will be an interesting read. Remember, you can't please all of the people all of the time so don't worry about mass-appeal.

If nothing gets written as a front page story then THE BOARD DIES - it really is as simple as that.

With regard to 'Great Balls of Fire' I have two options -
1. Keep writing and send each episodes out by email
2. Finish the whole tale, print it off as a mini-book and sell it at the SSSC Dinner, proceeds to charity.

Come on guys, get typing!

Right my literary darlings! After much discussion with CE, we've decided to continue this torrid tale be email. If anyone wants Part V or to go on my email list for further chapters email me at angie42_ AT hotmail DOT com. The final chapter will ONLY be in the printed out mini-books which will be available at the SSSC Dinner, for a donation.

There will also be one special copy signed by the authors and by anyone featured in it, which will be auctioned at the SSSC Dinner.

One very frustrated occasional board contributor here who didn't get to read the latest instalment before it was pulled.

AAS I think your idea of a mini book in aid of charity is a commendable one - but can I wait until 21 April to find out what happened next? I suppose I have no option. It is lamentable is it not, that a bit of tongue-in-cheek fun that may have encouraged more ladies to come along and see what all the fuss is about and thereby get hooked on rugby has been censored.

Well, the one and only printed copy wih colour cover and bound with official ERC ribbon was bought last night for a stunning £55. It was also autographed by Rudi Keil. Another £15 was raised through two donations for the full story by email bringing the amount ot raised for the SSSC Funds to £60 (budge up JK Rowling).

From what was started off by CE as a dig at the RFU and Mills and Boon's collective efforts, I took the crazy story forward and, with some inspiration from MikeGC (dark horse!) turned it into a racy little novelette.

If anyone wants it in it's finished state, email me at angie42_ AT hotmail DOT com and we can sort something out. I would be grateful of any donations - you can leave your cash and email address at the SSSC table in the marquee on Saturday and I'll send it out to you once I get the list.

A MASSIVE thank you once again, I am humbled to be able to raise such an amount for the SSSC which could help towards sending Mark Atkinson to New Zealand as the SSSC did last year.
