Guess The Attendance - Coventry in the cup

Welcome back

By Almo
December 9 2018

Well anyone could be excused for forgetting that the vital "guess the attendance" competition is still going. I know fierce rivals like Strickly and Britain's got Talent have upped their game to take advantage of our "on the road" policy, but we are still going, alive and kicking. So this weeekend we have a very special fixture. It is a Cup game, we have already qualified for the knock-out stages and to be honest, you might think the cup is pretty meaningless. However (trying to sound like Jeremy Clarkson) you'd be wrong. The match will be a combination of resuming the successful relaunch of the team, winning to get a home semi final and, above all, a demonstration of the quality of our new team.

On a personal note I expect the dress code to be Christmas jumpers, and also the acclaimed new team Christmas shirt. I have a particular pedestrian jumper, but it doesn't get much use and, in true Yorkshire style, am determined to get some wear out of it. Sorry to be boring.

Last time out (you will need your history books for this one), in the Dark Ages, we played London Scottish. Closest attendance guess was Madtyke (3 points) followed by Hornchurch (2) and Tower (1). Congratulations to both Madtyke and Hornchurch who have added to a previous score.

The table is below.

So we have an interesting event: the south stand is now open (including the changing rooms for those bringing their boots), first Headingley match in 8 weeks, promised Christmas entertainment plus an U18 match starting way earlier at 1030.

My (usually totally wrong) guess is:  1020

Please post your more considered guessses on this thread.

Table:

Hornchurch 5 points
Madtyke 4 points
LCSF, Albert 3 points
yeldor, Sidestep, yorkie ba 2 points
Tower, Bobba, WPL 1 point
Everyone else (includes me) nul point

Weather looks like it will be appropriate for a Christmas fixture: currently showing 3 degrees and possibly snow!

The offie has now put up an attendance figure of exactly 1000.

When I worked in pricing building works, if ever I guessed a figure I would make it an odd number...Ö.

Typical misinformation from the office. Presumably they also misinformed the reporter from the Rugby Paper advising him of a 750 attendance.
Must be taking lessons in misinformation from Messrs. Putin and Trump!

750? 1000? I'm just curious as to how a proper stadium, with turnstiles and everything, can't come up with a real attendance figure.
Is there a reason for that?

It's strange Admin - the club usually announce towards the 3nd of the match but didn't. I did see a soggy bit of paper being handed to the stadium announce - probably rendered useless in the freezing, driving rain. Numbers above are speculation by other sources.

The mysteries of the official attendance figures, and how it is calculated, is part of the magic of the Guess the attendance competition.

As it says in the rules, don't get too concerned by the official attendance and the number of people you count in the actual crowd.

I didn't see any flights going over so that's a reason the attendance was reported low in the media.

From what you say, it seems to me, the "official" attendance figure is purely guesswork. So, Who is it that's doing the guessing? Is it you? If so, I can see your plan. Your guesses pre match are not quite spot on, but sufficiently close enough to the "official" attendance, to ensure you pick up a point or two?

I suspect foul play here!

If only I was clever enough, or influencial enough, to affect the official attendances!
Note there were a lot of people in the corporate area at the top of the Carnegie Stand and many of us did not witness the attendees at the U18 match played earlier, but after the turnstiles opened. Surely it was a big mistake to play the matches with such a gap in the KO times?

Alternatively, there is a thought that the new South Stand has a hidden area on the roof, frequented by secret spectators.
