The Walk for Hambo 2009.
By Patrick Khachfe
January 21 2009
By now most will know about the devastating neck injury that hugely talented England under 21, and Leicester Tigers prop Matt Hampson suffered back in 2005. Since then, his story is one of spirit, inspiration and bravery in the face of adversity. The Matt Hampson Trust Fundraising Committee are organising a charity walk from the town of Rugby to Twickenham for the Guinness Premiership Final

Matt Hampson is now known all over the country as the inspirational figure who has given hope to so many people going through a tough period in their lives. The guy who got injured, but wouldn’t take it lying down.

The Matt Hampson Trust Fundraising Committee are organising a charity
walk on behalf of the Matt Hampson Trust, SpecialEffect (www.specialeffect.org.uk) and other designated charities chosen by each
participating club. The walk has the backing of British Waterways, PRL (Professional Rugby Limited), PRA (The Professional Rugby Players Association) and all 12 Guinness Premiership Rugby Union Clubs, Leicester, Northampton, Bath, Worcester, Gloucester, Bristol, Newcastle, Sale, Harlequins, Wasps, Saracens and London Irish.

For more information on the walk, including the detailed plan of the proposed route, download the Information pack here; and visit the website at www.matthampsonwalk.org

Thanks Tiggs.

If I get to be one of the walkers I will expect some sponsorship from you lot!

Stopsy - I'm not sure who's coordinating things at Tigers, but I think it's Scott Clarke. I've organised a meeting of the coordinators for the London clubs next week, and Roy Jackson's coming down for it, so I'll confirm with him that it is Scott. I'm pretty sure that it is, as an email to myself and the other ten club representatives was copied to him.

The aim is to get a mix of sponsors, supporters and staff, with each club providing up to 12 walkers. One club has already said that it knows it won't make the playoffs, so it will be sending players. No, not Wasps - yet!

The reason for an upper limit is simply that there wouldn't be room for more in the narrow boats which are providing the overnight accommodation. Anyone who can make just the odd day will be very welcome - as long, of course, as they get some sponsors!

They should try to get at least one from here, if only for the publicity, and money it might generate ?

Stopsy gets my vote !

If you do get selected Stopsy, let me know I may be able to help with publicity.
