How To........

The publishers' attempt to publish a definitive guide on how to add links and images into your MB posts. Scroll down to see how to embolden, italicise and underline text as well! If anyone has any other requests, put them on the message board and we'll see what we can do!

Links first, follow the easy step by step instructions:

1. Find the piece on the internet which you want to link to, copy the url of this piece (by highlighting the url and pressing CONTROL + C)

2. In your post on the board, click “Add A Link” – text will appear in the post as follows: Your link text

3. In that text, highlight http://your-link.com and then click CONTROL + V to paste your url into that space.

4. Then, name the piece – highlight the words “Your link text” and then type whichever title you’d like to appear in its place.

So, for example, say you wanted to link to http://www.bbc.co.uk – this is the url which you would paste for point 3.

Perhaps you’d want to call the story “BBC Rugby reporting” - that is the title (minus the “") and hence that is the part you paste for point 4.

Images next, very similar to links actually. Follow those instructions....:

1. Find the image which you want to link to, copy the url of this piece (by highlighting the url and pressing CONTROL + C)

2. In your post on the board, click “Add An Image” – text will appear in the post as follows: [img]http://your-site.com]your_image.gif[/img]

3. In that text, highlight http://your-site.com and then click CONTROL + V to paste your image into that space.

4. Then, name the image – highlight the words “your_image.gif” and then type whichever title you’d like to appear in its place.

So, for example, say you wanted to link to an image that is held on my server (which doesn't exist before anyone tries) http://www.thacker.co.uk – this is the site address which you would paste for point 3.

Perhaps you’d want to call the image “Creative 10 On the Move” - that is the title (minus the “") and hence that is the part you paste for point 4.

A warning note about images though - many of those taken for the purposes of sports reporting found on the internet are copyrighted to a particular person. Please don't just lift photos off the net, it could land us in hot water. If you've taken them, uploaded them and used them, then fine. But please use discretion if ripping them from somewhere or someone.

Next, bold text. This is really easy. All you do is to click "Bold Text" from the menu and you will see the words "Bold Text" between two b's in brackets. Simply replace the words "Bold Text" with the word you want to see in bold. Do not delete any of the brackets.

Now, underlined text. Same as bold - but click "Underlined Text" and you will see those words with u's either side of them. Again, replace "Underlined Text" with whatever you want to see underlined. Do not delete any of the brackets.

Finally, italics. Guess what? They are the same as bold and underlined text, except you see the words "Italic Text" between two i's in brackets. Replace those words with the ones you wish to see in italics, don't delete the brackets.

Click POST. Instigate discussion. Have fun.
