Peter Watkins Remembered
By Silver Warrior
February 26 2009
This Saturday is a special day for supporters of Worcester rugby and members of the supporters club and development fund. We will be remembering our dear friend Peter ‘Wattie’ Watkins who sadly passed away on the 29th February 2008.

Darren and I will always remember this day as it was when we beat Sale away. As we celebrated our win we received the sad news that Peter has sadly passed away.

We first met Peter when he was escort of the first away coach we went on which was Harlequins away during our first season in the premiership. He was a kind and generous man who would go out of his way to help anyone.

On Saturday in the Hallmark suite the supporters club will be unveiling a bench which we have bought out of donations which we received from supporters of Worcester. The bench will be situated in the East stand supporters bar as of Monday for everyone to enjoy.

Our season turned around last year so fingers crossed it will happen again.

God bless ‘Wattie’ you are sadly missed by all who knew you.

Tracy & Daz

Nice words Tracy and echoed by Myself & Sharron.
Our first away trip was to Leeds in the first premiership season and Peter was in charge of the coach then.
He always made us welcome even as a pair of Johnny Come Latelys
We were with you when the news came through and it really brought the so called crisis into perspective.

RIP Peter

Re: Peter Watkins Remembered
My first meeting with Peter was actually at New Road in the bar.

I had jumped the queue because my daughter was working behind it and didn't Peter let me know.

From that day we became good friends.

At the last game we played in Division 1 and as the fat Lady gave voice I stood with Peter and said, "tomorrow I am going to start a supporters club would you be interested in joining us" His immediate reaction was to say, "just tell me where and when"

I invited anyone to come along to O'Neils. Peter was one of the first to meet me. At the meeting the first and most important person you need is a secretary it is a very hard and sometime onerous duty but Peter Volunteered straight away and because of Peter's dedication to the role and the quality of his work WWSC went from strength to strength.

Whenever I needed someone on the desk Peter was always there, when we had funtions Peter was always there at the desk taking money and ensuring no-one got in that did not pay or was a member. Who can remember when he almost refused entry to Martin Corry up in the International Bar on our 1st Talk Rugby event, "who are you he said?" looking up as Martin towered over him with the look of, I don't care how big you are you are not getting in here mate!!!

Peter was an honest very caring person, an outstanding cricket player in his youth a really really nice man and I personally miss him very much.

If you are watching Peter it was an absolute pleasure to have known you. I will never forget you.

John

Re: Peter Watkins Remembered
I wonder how the great man Wattie would view the events of the last twelve months?

He was the classic supporter who was always there to help other supporters, whatever happened on the pitch, and supported almost blindly.

I very much hope that one day, one season, the Warriors will provide what we all seek with our club winning the Premiership competition, and Wattie would have carried on supporting even if it took a long time!!

Lets all try to echo his quiet enthusiasm and support as the best way to remember a very 'perfect' rugby supporter.
