Now the Season is over
By Silver Warrior
May 11 2009

The season is over and we have the Lions to look forward to and also the Churchill cup. Not sure if any of our lads will be picked to join the England ‘A’ side due to picking up late injuries during the final few games but it is always a good tournament to watch and see the young talent coming through the premiership clubs.

I do think the Lions stand a good chance of winning in South Africa especially with the injuries they are picking up at the moment during the Super 14’s.

Well on Friday 15th May the club are holding their Players Awards night which is always a good night with great food and good company. The supporters club will be presenting their awards for Young Player of the Year (Peter Watkins Trophy), Player of the Season, and Favourite Player. Thank you to everyone who has voted and we will hopefully post up the results as soon as they are available.

My thoughts of the season is a little disappointed with where we finished but also happy to do a double over Wasps and especially Gloucester. Think we have had some good wins especially Sale away (again) but we have also had some really bad games (Bristol both times).

Let’s just hope we can get a of consistency going at the start of next season with a couple of wins before Christmas so we can be safe before the end of the season and not having to watch over our shoulders or worry about any other teams results.

I just hope we can get a couple of new signings. I especially think we need a couple of forwards in case Chris Horsman is injured again next season. It is worrying that we have not had any news yet of the signings which are coming – if any. I’d have thought we would have announced at least that we had signed Willie Walker.

On Thursday May 21st the training starts for the Fat Bloke 7’s tournament which takes part in July. This is a weekend with involves a lot of alcohol and a bit of rugby. It is organised by the London Irish supporters and teams of supporters from most premiership clubs take part. If you fancy coming along for the training to have a laugh and a little bit of exercise then you will be more than welcome. We will meet at the club at 6.45 then head to Weston’s to ‘train’. Ladies are welcome too.

Hope you all have a great summer and are ready for another roller coaster season in September.
