Warriors 29 Leinster 22

September 24 2004
The Celtic Warriors kept their 100% record with a victory which meant Welsh regions were undefeated against foreign opposition this weekend, very positive steps I’m sure you will agree.

The game kicked off ten minutes late I think because of crowd congestion the crowd was good, I was in the Riverside Terrace which was packed. I think as people watch the team we have on TV they will turn up in greater numbers.

The game itself was poor, I spent most of it either drinking (£1.70 a pint is great value) or shouting obscenities at the referee. Iain Ramage was his name, he ruined the game and made it a scrappy stop/start affair, I hope I am not being overly harsh but he should stick to refereeing lower level rugby. The ref subbed himself during the Dragons-Ospreys game on Friday and I wish "Rubbish" Ramage would have done the same.

The first half consisted of kicks, former Irish international scrum half Brian O’Meara kept the scoreboard ticking over for the Lions, I can’t remember him missing.
Jinks fired back for the Warriors to keep us in the game.

Half time score: Warriors 9 Leinster 12

The second half was slightly more entertaining, we were treated to a few tries. Mefin Davies went over for the Warriors with a push over try after Brendan Burke had grabbed a try for the Irish.

The difference between the two teams today was Man of the match Gareth Wyatt, he kicked a superb drop goal and scored a wonder 60 yard try from his own 22 to take the game. It made the previous 80minutes bearable witnessing that piece of genius.

The crowd went mad after that effort, and very soon after Ramage blew his whistle for the 4,000th time in one game (a new record) to bring the game to an end.

Warriors Analysis

The Negatives

-The ref (see above)

-Our scrum, pushed back time and again. They are big boys and the solution is simply hard work on the training ground.

-Injuries to Nick Kelly and Jonny Bryant. With the world cup approaching and resources stretched we could do without this.

The Positives

- Support, none of the nonsense of Friday night with the supporters chanting their club name. Warriors was the chant, the supporters have come together and lets hope it continues. Warriors song was cheesy but I liked it.

- Backs, again looked world class even with internationals absent. Hansen must wish he could swap G Wyatt for Mark Jones now. Kev Morgan played ok and good luck to him in the world cup, Jinks 16 points is always crucial.

- We won!!! 2 out of 2, the show continues next Friday at the Brewery Field, see you there.
