A review of Bridgend Ravens campaign in 2004/2005, where they finished 3rd in the Welsh Premiership and reached the semi finals in the Konica Minolta Welsh Cup. For details read on.

By Bridgend Ravens RFC Captain – Mike Powell "Powelly"

Our finest performance of the season was the fantastic victory over Neath, we were delighted to get the win over the champions and we showed just how much we are progressing and how well we can play when we are on form.

The performance was repeated a week later at St Helens a week ;later with a fine victory over Swansea. Despite lots of squad changes we again showed great character and the great strength in depth we have in the side.

I was very disappointed with the semi final loss against Llanelli and that loss hurt the squad, it’s the third time I have been involved with a Bridgend cup run and a semi final defeat in as many seasons and all desperately wanted to give the fans a day out in the final. Lets hope we can go one better next year.

The hangover from that game was shown in our worst performance of the season vs Cross Keys, but the boys rallied and returned to form against Pontypool.

Well done to Gareth David for scoring 35 points vs Newbridge and claiming a club record. Gareth showed why he was named our Most Improved Player of the Year and has put in some great performances this season.

I was delighted to receive Supporters Player of the Year and congratulations must go to Ryan Howells for getting Players Player of the Year.

Looking ahead to next season we must get lots of local businesses to come on board and make sure we survive and continue to compete with the best, we also want to improve on our 3rd place finish and get to the cup final next season. The support has been great but we need many more fans to flow through the gates if the club is to survive and challenge for honours.

Well done to Chris Tossell and Nicky Griffiths for getting to the U20s final at the Millennium Stadium with the Ospreys, again this goes to show how many great young players we have at the club.

Many thanks to the backroom staff who have looked after us this season, thanks also to the coaching staff Chris, Paul and Brendon, the doctors who have given up their time to patch us up and of course Leighton Samuel for his continued support to both myself and the club.

Finally I’d like to thank all the supporters who have cheered us this season both home and away, we will need all of you and more to follow us again next season if we are to continue to progress but I can’t thank the hardcore enough.

Top Scorers

Gareth David 323 Points (264 League Points)

Ryan Howells 17 Tries (13 League Tries)
