Contact with Gwydion
By Andrew Collins
July 29 2007
theArmsPark.co.uk has tried to make contact with marketing Cardiff Blues manager, Gwydion Griffiths, regarding the move to the City of Cardiff Stadium, sponsored by Swalec, but unfortunately to no avail. Read here the e-mails sent and received from my contact with the Blues.

On July 21st 2007, I sent the following message to Gwydion Griffiths (Gwydion.Griffiths@cardiffblues.com);

 Dear Mr Giffiths,

My name is Andrew Collins. I am writing to you as a Cardiff RFC and Cardiff Blues season ticket holder of nine years and as admin of a successful fans site for the region.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to arrange an interview with either Mr. Peter Thomas, or Mr Robert Norster regarding a range of issues that users of my site are concerned about, and that are preventing many fans from renewing their season ticket. The main worries from the fans I have contact with, is of course the now imminent ground share with Cardiff City FC. I know that I myself, along with too many others, feel let down by the board, as well as kept in the dark regarding the whole affair.

A recent statement on CardiffBlues.com from Mr Norster stated that any decision made would be in the best interests of the regions loyal supporters; however I’m unaware of any supporter that’s been approached by the board, and not sure the board even know what is best for this region.

Of course this is something I would like to discuss in person with either of the above, and I know that Mr Thomas recently said in an article for the South Wales Echo that he would happily meet any person who had questions regarding the direction the Blues were taking, and I would certainly like to take him up on this offer.

I fully understand that they’re both busy men, but I can be very flexible and know that an interview such as this would be a good show of faith to the many disillusioned fans. I look forward to hearing from you, thanks for your time,

Andrew Collins

The reply was received on July 27th, but my request was apparently unsuccessful. The e-mail read;

 Dear Mr Collins,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry to hear that you feel you have been kept in the dark regarding any discussion about a proposed move to a new stadium in Leckwith.

The Cardiff Blues have kept the supporters informed of any discussions through posting information on the official Cardiff Blues website. www.cardiffblues.com   We have also held meeting with representatives of the Supporters’ Club and the Supporters’ Trust to keep them informed of any decisions taken.

Any further news can be accessed on our website.

Yours truly, Gwydion Griffiths

Personally, I don’t see this as an ado quite answer, as there have been very few posts on cardiffblues.com regarding the move, other than Norster saying the region would act in ‘the fans best interests’.

However, getting any information from our board seems like banging your head against a brick wall. But just because my e-mail was unsuccessful, there’s no reason to say yours won’t be. Clearly, my individual e-mail wasn’t enough to be taken seriously, so maybe if we show them just how many fans are wanting answers, we will eventually get somewhere.

If you wish to send a message to the Cardiff Blues, be they questions or views, I implore you to do so through me, and through the messageboard at the bottom of this page. Later this week, I will reply to Gwydion, and will attach all the replied I get to this story. If you wish to ask questions, again I ask you to do so now. Write your post in letter form, as they will simply be copied and pasted straight to his inbox!

 I look forward to sending your replied to Gwydion.

I've just written to him directly Admin - hope you don't mind.

Good man for having a go though..!

A typically arrogant answer from 'the blues'. Let's face facts, they don't want our input, all they want is to move to their new stadium and become a football clubs tenants. The spin coming out of Thomas and his cronies is laughable. They think if they tell us enough times how good it will be then at some point we're likley to beleive it.

At least 3 of my mates have had phone calls asking if they intend renewing season tickets ( their not ). I'm waiting for my call and i hope they have loads more to make to similarly disgruntled supporters.

Can't wait for the rags season to start.

dont know what you are worried about just found this on the offical blues website(was'nt easy to find)speaking as a nutral.:

Following recent media reports regarding Cardiff Blues playing at Leckwith Stadium, Cardiff Blues Chief Executive, Robert Norster, issued the following statement.

“We continue to work with Cardiff City Football Club and its partners regarding the potential use of Leckwith Stadium by the Blues. A very broad outline of a possible heads of terms agreement has been tabled. Naturally, much of the necessary detail will only fully emerge once matters become more formalised over the coming weeks.”

“We also continue to explore the best way forward for professional rugby in our Region as we seek to grow and challenge in an ever increasingly competitive environment. Needless to say, whatever decision is taken we will do what is best for the team and its supporters.”

see, he will do what is best for the supporters, what more can you ask for? (Sm60)

Thanks for the advice osprey but it's mainly what we've seen of that soul-less God awful place called the Liberty stadium that has put us off...!

No offense like...

Remember that whilst a move to a new stadium may have been right for the Ospreys, it could be an entirely different story for Cardiff.

Not all change is progress.

Why do you believe it is progress?

Interested to read your reasons.

Of course its progress. Undeniable progress.

You can tell its progress by looking at the size of it. Everything is much, much bigger. Especially the @#$%& rent.
