Cardiff RFC Kick Off 07/08

Cardiff Kick Off 07/08
By Andrew Collins August 11 2007
Cardiff RFC kick off their 07/08 campaign today at the Cardiff Arms Park, against nation League One side, Pertemps Bees in a 2.30pm kick off. It's a new look Cardiff side, as they give debuts to many of their new signings.
Likewise to the Blues midweek clash with Ponty, Cardiff are fielding 2 teams, a side for each half, in order to give the entire squad a full run out.

The Blue and Blacks are fielding a largely new squad, with a massive list of In's and Out's to Justin Burnell's squad.

It was recently announced on http://www.cardiffrfc.co.uk/ that their squad would be bolstered by the arrivals of former Blues centre, Tristan Davies, plus RFC fan favourite and former player of the year Dan McShane. Andrew Hutchings and Roger Davies join at full back, hoping to fill the gaps left by Leon Andrews (Cross Keys) and Jamie Roberts (Cardiff Blues).

Elsewhere, Richard Thomas and Dan Meredith join Ryan Howells as new wingers, with the latter being familiar to those who went to Sardis Road midweek, and saw the youngster play a full 80 minutes, touching down for the regional side.

Highly rated youngster Leigh Halfpenny is also added to the squad, while Gareth Davies and Scott Sneddon arrive to battle out the 10 birth with Craig Evans, but left by Chris Anderson.

There are recruits to the pack as well, with Garry Horrigan and Rhys James (hookers), Richard Cornock (Prop), 6ft 6" lock Damian Welsh and former Bridgend flanker Adam Whitney.

There are also additions in the form of Cardiff Blues Academy products, Patrick palmer (Prop), Aaron Fowler (Hooker) and last seasons U20's captain, Jevon Groves (Flanker).

As for today's sides, they look as follows; (1st half/2nd Half)

Leigh Halfpenny [both]; Jon Walder/Elgan Jones, Shaun James/Richard Thomas, Tristan Davies/Richard Jones, Dan Meredith/Ryan Howells; Craig Evans/Gareth Davies, Owen Ruttley/Gareth Baber; Richard Cornock/Gareth Gunter, Rhys James/Gary Horrigan, Darren Fenton/Luke Hunter, Dafydd Rosser/James Down, Damien Welch/Chris Stamatakis, Dan McShane/Nick Hampson, Adam Whitney/Dan Franks, Chris Jones/Adam Powell

Admission is £5, or free with season tickets.

Decent game for a pre season "friendly" and a good win against a side I expected a bit better from..? - were they missing any players..?

We actually look to have a bit of strength in depth this year but need some work on line outs and taking kick offs..!

A positive start on the field.

Shocking ineptitude off the field from the "ticket Office"!

What do you mean SA?

Yea, the squads looking much better this year, a lot bigger which is vital. It's going to be a good season for the RFC.

A few promising talents as well, always good to see.

No season ticket so I go to the the office. No one is in the office. Get told tickets are around by the gate. Go to the gate to find my ticket is there but my boys (paid for on the same card and using the same address) is not there. It's been posted out!

So with No checks at all the woman on the stand gives my lad a ticket for the game. What would have happened if I'd brought 20 mates down all saying "where's my season ticket?"

The club really manages to display a totally incompetent front went the chips are down.
