Sweeney Swap For Flanagan

Sweeney Swap For Flanagan
By Andrew Collins April 14 2008
With Nick Macleod already leaving for Sale at the end of the season, it now looks certain that fellow fly half, Dai Flanagan, will be joining him through the exit door, with Ceri Sweeney coming the other way in swap to/from the Dragons.

Sweeney's transfer has been all but confirmed for months, but with Flanagan signing a contract to join former Ponty half back partner, Wayne Evans, the deal can be confirmed.

It leaves Cardiff Blues with just 2 regional outside halfs, Sweeney providing rotation and competition for Nicky Robinson. The back up option 10 would probably be provided by Cardiff RFC stand off Craig Evans, unless there is another player set to arrive.

Sweeney joins Aled Brew as Cardiff's unannounced, but thought to be confirmed, signings for the 08/09 season. With the nWq rule providing quite a problem in terms of recruitment, the Blues have been forced to tie up contracts to keep the squad ticking over, but it remains to be seen if the ambition Peter Thomas spoke about will actually be delivered.

Other plyers being linked to the highest placed Welsh side are Aussie scrum half, Matt Henjak and Gloucester fly half, Willie Walker. As for leaving the region, Gareth Thomas is courting a move to America to meet up with good friend Scott Johnson, Tal Selley's loan finishing while Marc Stcherbina could get the chop to make way for a new nWq arrival.
