Tito New Blues Captain

Cardiff Blues New Zealand lock, Paul Tito, has taken over the captaincy in a shock move, as fellow countryman, Xavier Rush, stands down. Rush, who is set to miss the first 6 weeks of the season, has stated he has relinquished his role in order to focus on his own game.

It means that fan favourite, Tito, will wear the black arm band as the last Cardiff Blues captain at the Arms Park, and he has already stated his intent to do well in the new role,

"Dai asked me and there were a couple of things I wanted to do before accepting, such as talk to some of the senior players and make sure I had their full support. They were right behind me, which made the decision easy. There's no point trying to lead a team without some of the big boys supporting you. It was a decision I thought about for a while and I'm proud to be captain of the Blues."

He went on to say,

"It was a good season last year, but I was a bit disappointed with my performance against some of the bigger teams and that is something that I'm going to try to fix this year. It's definitely a bit more pressure being skipper as you have to make the decisions, but I don't think it will affect my game. Number 8, 9 and 10 are still big decision makers on the pitch when I've got my head in the scrum."

Ginger Tito has an impecable record as captain already, taking the arm band with former New Zealand province Taranaki, Super 14 outfit, The Hurricanes, New Zealand U21 side and the Maoris, whom he led to Churchill Cup victory in 2006.

Lock partner, Deiniol Jones, has alreadty voiced support for his new captain, he told WalesOnline.co.uk,

"I can't speak highly enough of him. He's an outstanding player. He's one of these guys that brings something extra to the game. He never stops playing hard and as far as I'm concerned, he has got all the attributes to do the captaincy job well."

It means there'll be added reason for fans to boom out ‘TEE-TOE, TEE-TOE, TEE-TOE!' next season. Let's hope the enthusiasm fans have shown towards him, is reflected in his success as captain over the next few years.
