Martyn Gets First Lions T
Following the devastating last minute loss in last weekends test, the Lions will be out to ensure they're not whitewashed by South Africa for the first time in 118 years.
Martyn has found himself on the bench for the first two tests, behind Ireland's David Wallace, but has been selected in a new look back row alongside England's Joe Worsely, and the former Blues captain couldn't be happier;
"Knowing that this was the last time I would ever play for the Lions I was overjoyed when I heard that I would finally get that number seven jersey, it was a really proud moment. It was disappointing not to get a start before now, but if you look around the squad on a Lions tour it's always going to be tough."
There've been 8 changes to last weekends starting XV, with injuries playing a big part after a highly brutal encounter with the World Champions. Shalk Burger was controversially allowed to remain ion the feild after his firts minute eye gouge on young wing Luke Fitzgerald, while other casualties included Cardiff duo Gethin Jenkins and Jamie Roberts.
But Williams is determined to write the wrongs of the two previous games and get a win to send the Lions home with pride.
"There's nothing worse than what-ifs in professional sport and that's what we've been feeling for the last two Sundays. There's definitely plenty of motivation with a lot of us making our first Lions starts. It's a huge Test against South Africa and we want to go home with a win under our belts."
It completes an incredible turnaround for the flanker, who had retired from International rugby after the 2007 World Cup, only to be coaxed back by current Wales and Lions coach, Warren Gatland.
"I still owe [Gatland] a huge amount for that,"
In other Blues news, Andy Powell misses out on his final chance for a Lions Test appearance this tour with Jamie Heaslip starting at 8, one of just four players to start all three tests, Paul O'Connell, Mike Phillips and Stephen Jones the others.
Meanwhile, the Blues have racked up an massive injury list during the summer. Gethin Jenkins fractured his eye socket in last weekends test and faces an uncertain lay off, while Tom Shanklin, who missed the tour following a dislocated shoulder, will be back in October.
Jamie Roberts injury has been deemed less serious than first thought, and he should be available for the Blues start of the season, and completing the list of Cardiff Lions casualties, Leigh Halfpenny who featured in just one game on tour may miss the opening few matched at the new Cardif City Stadium.
The other injury comes from Wales' summer tour of Canada and the US, with Tom James hoping to be back by mid October. He, like Shanks, suffered a dislocated shoulder, but fortunately won't require surgery.
