Darren Morris Joins Cardi
The Blues have today announced the signing of Darren Morris on a free transfer after he agreed a short term deal with Dai Young's region.
Morris is believed to have turned down moves to rivals the Ospreys, as well a number of French clubs to return to Wales following his six year exile.
Having begun his career at Neath, Morris made his name at local rivals Swansea, where he stayed until 2003 when the St Helen club went into administration. He then left Wales, joining Leicester where he enjoyed three successful years before moving to Worcester in 2006.
Dai Young expressed his delight at another shrewd piece of business this summer,
"Darren is a quality player with a wealth of experience which is crucial, especially in some of the Heineken Cup games. With Gethin injured playing for the Lions it was important that we brought in a player with experience to cover. He has demonstrated his ability having played 18 times for Wales and toured with the Lions and I'm sure he will help develop some of the youngsters we have coming through also."
Darren becomes the second 2001 Lions tourist to arrive this summer following Dafydd James shock signing announced last week. The pair were joined on that Australian tour by Blues flanker Martyn Williams and coach Dai Young.
Morris will compete with Tao' Felise, John Yapp and Gary Powell in the absence of Jenkins, who was injured in the second British Lions test.
In injury news, Ritchie Rees and Richard Mustoe are both struggling to be fit for the Magners League opener against Edinburgh on September 4th, while Casey Lauala will miss most of the first month with a broken arm. Martyn Williams, like prop Jenkins, is expected to miss the first two rounds of the Heineken Cup.
