Blues to face Australia
The Blues become the second regional side to face Australia following their visit, and defeat, to the Ospreys in 2006. Cardiff will of course be without their International stars, but the likes of Ritchie Mustoe, who scored the winning try in the Ospreys 24-16 victory, will be desperate to maintain the old club sides wonderful record.
It will be a particularly special day for new outside half, Sam Norton-Knight, who has 2 caps with the Wallabies and is likely to start the November 24th fixture.
Chief Exec Robert Norster applauded the news saying,
"The opportunity for our team to play international opposition at our new home is naturally one to relish. Having personally played my part in the proud history of Cardiff RFC against the Wallabies, I understand how prestigious such occasions can be."
His comments were echoed by Dai Young, who told BBC Sport,
"The match against Australia should be a great occasion for all the fans and everyone involved with the Cardiff Blues. It's also a great opportunity for those players who have not played international rugby to play against one of the best teams in the world."
Cardiff RFC beat Australia in 1908, 1947, 1957, 1966, 1975 and 1984.
There's more good news for Blues fans, who can celebrate the re-signing f Lions prop Gethin Jenkins. Widely considered one of the best props in the world, his contract renewal is terrific news for everybody at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Agent Mark Spoors said,
"Gethin has signed his contract taking him through to 2012... [he's] the best loose-head in the world, the Blues have seen that."
