EMPICS
Where Wales fit into this scale after being significantly inept at Murrayfield is a question for Gareth Jenkins and his team.
Takeout Mark Jones, Kevin Morgan, Dwayne Peel and Martyn Williams and you would be hard pressed to find any other member of Wales's starting lineup that could justify their selection after such performances.
Going Backwards
Wales's finest achievement in modern days appears to be it's biggest curse at current. A Lions tour, Ruddock-gate coupled with Scott Johnsons' wil-he-won't-he departure though have undoubtedly had their effect on this group of players.
Gavin Henson a gifted but ill-advised world class player appears lost in a world of his own, cloaked by ego induced complacency.
Perhaps Henson is symptomatic of two years of standing still in international rugby. 2005 was all about aggressive, physical, but intelligent rugby.
This afternoon Wales did not impose themselves sufficiently in any area of the game. It was textbook Scotland at Murrayfield, and Wales failed to dictate play, seemingly waiting for the game to fall into their laps.
Even with a malfunctioning set piece today, Wales still could have taken advantage of a less than ruthless Scot's side who only really killed the game with five minutes to go.
Looking Forwards
Jenkins has got to make a clear statement in dropping and out of sorts Stephen Jones and bringing Hook into his far suited position, Jenkins appears blinded by loyalty to his captain. Sweeney at twelve would be a form pick, but a Shanklin/Luscombe centre partnership looks would offer a more game breaking edge. Prey for Shane Williams's fitness.
Brent Cockbain at lock offers a far more aggressive option, whilst Jonathan Thomas offers a more dynamic game at blindside.
Strange things happen when Wales play in Paris, but recent victories have been built on fluid attacking displays, at current this side would just take a try.
I honestly have a lot of empathy for Gareth Jenkins, a very passionate man, however he is already looking very much out of his depth.
Bred in Heaven?
The first time I've felt genuinely angry after a Wales match for at least a year (Ireland last year) and really I'm glad I only watched it during my lunch hour along with a few sneaky peaks on the web. Two matches against our Celtic brothers with no tries scored, very worrying times indeed.
BiH Rating: 0/5 pints, plenty of hot chocolates though.
