Aus vs Wal - 1st Test Preview
By Zippy May 23 2007
Preview of the 1st test between Australia and Wales to be played this Saturday at the Telstra Stadium in Sydney. Both sides are slightly understrength but it is the last chance for many of the players ahead of the world cup in France later this year.

Wales: Lee Byrne (Ospreys); Gareth Thomas (Blues, capt), Jamie Robinson (Blues), Sonny Parker (Ospreys), Chris Czekaj (Blues); James Hook (Ospreys), Mike Phillips (Ospreys); Iestyn Thomas (Scarlets), Matthew Rees (Scarlets), Adam Jones (Ospreys), Brent Cockbain (Ospreys), Robert Sidoli (Blues), Colin Charvis (Dragons), Gavin Thomas (Scarlets), Jonathan Thomas (Ospreys).
Replacements: Richard Hibbard (Ospreys), Ceri Jones (Harlequins), Michael Owen (Dragons), Scott Morgan (Blues), Gareth Cooper (Gloucester), Ceri Sweeney (Dragons), Gavin Henson (Ospreys).

Australia: Julian Huxley; Mark Gerrard, Stirling Mortlock, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Drew Mitchell; Stephen Larkham, Matt Giteau; Matt Dunning, Stephen Moore, Guy Shepherdson, Nathan Sharpe, Mark Chisholm, Rocky Elsom, Phil Waugh (capt), Wycliff Palu.
Replacements: Adam Freier, Benn Robinson, Dan Vickerman, Stephen Hoiles, George Smith, George Gregan, Scott Staniforth.

Zippy Comments:

Wales team is pretty much as expected, only 3 queries for me is why Chris Check-Eye is being given yet another chance ahead of young player of the year Aled Brew. Parker is being played at 12, why take Henson and not start with him? And finally RST proved in the last few games he is world class potential yet the reliable Dougie starts.

Australia side looks weak, and they blame us for poor ticket sales.

Expect Wales to have a go in the front V for at least 60mins and then Hook and Henson will have a go, it wouldn't surprise me to see a Wales win. Here goes, I'm looking forward to it.

yep we could win this. Given up asking why checkeye keeps getting given chances, he's @#$%&. Even if Brew is injured jus about any other wing in wales is better than checkeye. Agree about henson, I'd start him and see how he goes. Yes he's not played since jan but if he's going to get match fit then he needs to be on the field coz we ain't got many games left.

Hope Charvis plays well, he deserves to be on the bench at least come the WC.

God knows what Check-Eye has over Gyppo I wouldn't want to even guess!! Give Tom James a run perhaps.

Henson is the type of player we either make a focus of the team or don't bother having him at all, there is no middle ground as he doesn't work like that.

Parker has proved time after time that he doesn't pass which will in turn make those outside him look bad.

Can't believe that after all the rubbish from the Aussie media, THAT is the team they put out.
