Ode to France

Well we've gone and done it,
we've won the wooden spoon.
The changes Mr. Moffetts made,
can't come a day too soon.
The game it started oh so well
when Gareth ran one in.
Then Morgan nearly got one more.
We began to think we'd win.
But that was all we saw from Wales
The French took us apart.
how could things go so very wrong,
after such an excellent start?
It's always the same problem,
we just can't win the ball
and when we do, we kick it away,
which is no use at all.
On the few times we do run it,
When we drive and ruck and pass.
We look like we can beat anyone,
no matter what their class.
but sadly this is seldom
and we can't win the game,
if we have no posession,
it's such a bloody shame.
It's hard to say who did play well
and who it was played bad
Infact it's hard to say anything,
so little ball we had.
but I will keep on hoping,
that this is not the end.
That whatever it is that's broken,
will soon be on the mend.
Lets try not to be gloomy,
the present may look bleak,
remember the young boys won the slam
earlier on this week.
So lets look to the future,
Youth is on our side.
The dragon it will rise again
and restore Welsh rugby pride.

"Do I want to see it,
should I watch the game?"
"Just to see us lose again
and add to our growing shame."
That's what I thought this morning,
but the patriot in me said,
"You'll only stop supporting Wales
when you are cold and dead".
So I sat there hoping,
that the score wouldn't be to wide
and that when the game was over
I could say at least we tried.
The first half it was shakey,
we had plenty of the ball,
but we struggled to break the gain line
and made little ground at all
I think we just lacked confidence,
well that's no real surprise.
But as the game continued
we saw our talent rise.
The second half didn't start too well,
a mistake and Ireland were in
and I again began to fear,
a record Irish win.
But the boys they fought back bravely
with two well worked tries run in.
Just a point between the teams,
it looked like Wales could win.
We saw some excellent rugby,
from all upon the field.
With 80 minutes on the clock,
still neither side would yield.
Then Jonesy kicked the drop goal
and I rose as if to shout,
but was so chocked up with emotion,
that not a sound came out,
but it all went sadly wrong,
the restart we failed to take,
and that's what cost us victory,
that one, simple mistake.
O'Gara split the uprights
and tho Jones did try again,
Hickey charged the kick down
and foiled our number ten.
I know that we still lost the game,
but I'm not sad tonight.
The boys just need a bit more time,
and then they'll get it right.
The forwards played the best they have,
this year, by quite a way
Even of Colin Charvis,
I've nothing bad to say.
The backs they too played very well,
tho once again today,
we saw the difference Harris makes,
when he's allowed to play.
I do not think that anyone,
can say the boys lacked pride,
It came down to the simple fact,
that God's on Irelands side.

So it's back to Cardiff
to face the green machine.
These Irish boys I must say,
are by far the best I've seen.
We've been having Problems
we all know that is true,
But I'm sure that Stevie Hansen
and the boys know what to do.
Our forwards must give all they have,
they must really play their part,
And I ask a favour Hansen,
let Iestyn Harris start.
He always makes a difference,
and ok, the odd mistake,
but I'm sure he'll show how good he is,
if we'd just give him a break.
I know that there are doubters,
but it's just that we rushed him in.
Now it's essential he's on the field,
if Wales are going to win.
I know no one man makes a team,
that all must play their best,
and show us they deserve their place,
that they're better than the rest.
I'm sure we can win the game,
if we play with heart and pride.
It would also help a little,
if God is on our side.

Ode to Scotland

I never had a single doubt,
not a single one
That the scoreboard up in Edinburgh
would show that Wales had won
Our first game had been aweful,
but we showed against the Saes
That the future wasn't doom and gloom,
infact it looked quite nice.
I sat there in amazement,
it was just like Rome again.
We'd be better playing Schoolboys,
in numbers 1 thru 10
Once again we saw our forwards,
are unable to compete.
In only twenty minutes,
we were staring at defeat.
We kicked away posession
every time we had the ball,
and believe me when I tell
that wasn't much at all.
The second half was better,
but worse it couldn't be.
We just had no direction,
or so it seemed to me.
I really don't know what to say,
where do we go to now?
Some say we should make Jenkins coach
and he will show us how.
I've tried to back Steve Hansen
but after watching that,
I guess his selection process,
is pulling names out of a hat.
I'd written half the poem
to celebtate our win,
but there's just one place it now belongs,
with Welsh rugby, in the bin.

The boys now have to head up north
To face the Scots once more.
The flower of Scotland's wilting,
the dragon's ceased to roar.
The wooden spoon decider
is what the experts say
According to Jeff Probyn
Wales has had it's day.
Well I don't agree with Jeffrey
I think we will be back.
The young boys that are coming thru
will put us back on track.
Both these teams have much to prove
of this there is no doubt.
But this year is far from over,
so don't yet count us out.
If our forwads play the best they can,
if they play with all their might
against the rucking Scottish men,
we'll beat them out of sight.
I think we'll win by quite a way
our backs have pace and class,
but this time please Mark Taylor,
look outside and pass.
I'm sure our Celtic cousins
won't think this poem nice,
but next game we'll all be Scottish
and hope they beat the Saes!
The Answer
Author: 30-22

There can be just one answer
to our present plight,
me and a certian friend of mine
will sneak out late one night.
We'll break into their houses
and hit them on the head,
just hard enough to knock them out
we do not want them dead.
We'll take them to his castle,
that's high upon a hill,
between Aber and Machynlleth,
near the water mill
Then my friend will start his work
with a surgeon's skill.
Have you guessed yet who my friend is?,
don't worry, soon you will.
First he'll start on Iestyn,
he'll take his hands and pace
and that wonderful ability
he has for making space.
Then he'll work on Stephen Jones
he'll take his kicking skill,
especially the knack he has
for finding touch at will.
When all the parts he's gathered,
then comes the tricky bit,
to transplant them on Ceri,
let's just hope they'll fit.
"Why give them all to Sweeney?"
is what I hear you say.
Well Ceri is the youngest,
so has longer left to play.
Then he'll add that final touch,
he'll do it with great care,
that final bit of magic,
he'll give the bloke red hair
So next time you're at Cardiff,
please try not to laugh,
at the strange creation,
that's Wales' outside half.
His look may be peculiar,
but he'll have talent stitched well in.
He'll kick goals from 80 metres out,
if that's what we need to win
He'll break thru all defences,
he'll make the space outside.
He won't care about the money,
he'll always play with pride.
so do I have to tell you,
who is this friend of mine?
Well he's known throughout the Valleys
as Dai ap Frankenstein.

The Question
Author: 30-22
Date: 05-03-03 20:13
here then is the question,
who should we play at 10?
I think Harris is the best
but there are two other men.
Some say Sweeney is the one
give him another go.
others say now Jones is fit
that he's first choice once more.
Sweeney is the future,
he showed that against the Saes,
but missed penalties and touches
which weren't so very nice.
Jones he is reliable
with a boot of Jenks' class.
But he's a little low on pace
and not so inclinded to pass.
Some say Harris hasn't settled yet
and this may well be true.
But he's the one can make space
to send our back line thru
Please don't misunderstand me
I think all three are great.
I just think Harris has the edge,
so what do you think mate?
Oh there is one final choice
tho some say he's too old,
tho the red hair is receding
his boot's still made of gold.

I know you wish I'd go away
this is the last one now
I've just this final word to say
before I take a bow
I've said some very bad things
about the squad it's true.
But I am so bloody angry
as most of you are too
well whatever was the reason
for that dire show
they all are sure of how we feel
We've really let them know.
and now they've got to raise themselves
to play for Wales again
against the best team in the world
or so say Englishmen
do you think that you could do it
after such an aweful show?
could you put on the jersey
and into battle go?
they know how much they have to do
not just the match they lost,
but I think we'll see proud Welshmen
prepared to pay the cost
so when they walk out saturday
roar with all your might
fill them with strength and courage
for the coming fight
and no matter what does happen
no matter how it goes
Let Wales unite behind our squad
as they face the English rose
The cunning plan
Author: I'm a poet and I don't know it

Lets get rid of Hansen,
lets bin the bloody lot.
Why do they bother playing
if thats the best we've got?
Did you see them playing italy?
Did you see how far they fell?
We'd happily pay the train fare
that takes them all to hell.
But while I sat here thinking
something occured to me
this has to be a stratagy
and now I think I see
England are the favourites
and Wales dont have a hope
of course I've been so stupid
I've really been a dope
They know what really matters
and they came up with a plan
To stop the English winning
their oh so sure grand slam
When they see us lose to Italy
too confident they'll be
that they will beat us easy
Now do you start to see?
They'll come to Cardiff sure
that they will win the day
"We English can't be beaten"
is what they're sure to say
We'll let them get more confident
but keep the score quite tight
even tho the experts think
that they'll be out of sight
Then in the dying minutes
we'll spread the ball out wide
the pace and skill our backs will show
will fill us all with pride
and over in the corner
we'll score the winning try
as the kick it splits the uprights
I'll be so proud, I'll cry
when they realise whats happened
no time left on the clock
the Welsh defence will hold them
solid as a rock
We'll hit them hard in tackles
we'll drive them off the ball
we'll even win the lineouts,
the scrum, the ruck and maul
We did it back in 99
England had it won
That's what Eddie Butler thought
'till Gibbsey had his run
you see it's all a cunning plan
that's going to save the day
don't listen to the experts
or what the papers say
I know this all sounds stupid
but it's all that I can hope
if I'm wrong then they can hang themselves
and I'll supply the rope
------------------------------------
inspired by my father
Happy birthday Dad
This is what he told me
and yes I think he's mad

this really is the last one
I'm out of verse and rhyme
back now into hiding
to return another time.

Will they?
Author: I'm a poet and I don't know it
Date: 16-02-03 15:02
Will Cardiff streets be empty?
will the fans all stay away?
Will Guscott still be smirking
and JD turning grey?
will Ben Evans drive like Pricey did
when long ago he played?
Will Charvis even bother?,
after all he's getting paid.
Will the back row get to breakdowns?
Will they win the ball?
Will we win a lineout,
and drive in ruck and maul?
Will we go down by a hundred?
Should the boys turn up at all?
or will they play like hero's
when they answer Wales' call
Will they drive back England?
as in the days of old
"they really can't play better"
is what I have been told
But deep within me somewhere
a voice says "don't despare"
Let England come to Cardiff
without a single care
The boys will play like dragons
with skill, with heart and might
England may still win the game
but not without a fight.
So when you play at Cardiff
and singing fills the air
Don't play for the money
Play for the shirt you wear!
ok promise no more poems for a while ;)
ode to Italy
Author: I'm a poet and I dont know it
Date: 16-02-03 00:28
I woke at six this morning,
ill and stuck at home.
Not a happy birthday,
but still, best not to moan.
"Wales are on this afternoon
that'll raise the day."
So i settled by the fire
to watch my country play.
They played with heart and fire,
they drove with strength and might.
It's Italy that I talk about.
Not Wales, we played like ****e.
Our forwards were lethargic
they were driven off the ball
No pride, no heart, no spirit
why were they there at all?
Some backs did try their damnedest
There were a few with pride
if our forwards had made the effort
we had them beat out wide.
The loss is not the problem,
we could cope with that alone
but in that shirt and on the field
you represent our home.
All we want is that you try
and I mean try you best.
That you give your very all,
not that you win the test.
So happy bloody birthday
this' one I'll soon forget
I'm off now to the bookies
England by a 100, is what I'll ****ing bet!
