Heineken Cup Round 4 Report
By Editor Paul
December 12 2004
Llanelli Scarlets and Neath-Swansea Ospreys remain in the hunt for quarter final places, after comprehensive victories over the weekend, however Newport Gwent's hopes appear to be more or less over following a heavy defeat in France.

Gavin Henson continued where he left off against Harlequins, however this time the inside centre had a far stronger match with the ball in hand at the Stoop, with a twenty six opint haul, including a try in each half. 20 year old outside half Matthew Jones led a backline that easily dominated the home side, who spent most of the second half with fourteen men through sin binnings.

Lyn Jones' side still face a daunting trip to Thomond park -where anything less than a victory over Munster will see their hopes ended.

Two tries from fellow wings' Aisea Havili and Tal Selley look to have also given the Scarlets' a fighting chance of making the knockout stage. Another poor kicking display by Gareth Bowen hindered their 38-22 win over Glasgow at Stradey.

Three early scores meant Newport Gwent Dragons' were always going to struggle to gain anything at Perpignan. Newcastle are a near centainty to progress in pool five now - unless the Dragons' can turn things around at Kingston Park next month.

Cardiff Blues hopes of qualifying are mathemataticaly over, with Gloucester claiming a more comfortable victory in front of the largest crowd at the Arms Park this season. There were yellow cards a plenty as the Blues struggled for creativity behind the pack, with only a late consolation try from Craig Morgan to show for their efforts.
