England Rugby December 2006 - In Review

England Rugby in December 2006, well it was bleak and I am not talking about the weather this time.  How bad can it get for England we ask, when will this free fall stop?

And so a saviour has come to us, how very apt that on the lead up to the Christmas season we should get our New England Head Coach Brian Ashton.

We at Unofficial England wish him the very best of luck and hope that his appointment will be successful but above all, that he works the proverbial miracle for us.   Along with the three wise men Ford, Wells and Andrew we may now hopefully move forward onto a winning streak.  Please God let it be so,  Amen.

We saw the RFU getting tough over the misuse of International Ticket allocations.  The Rugby Football Union has imposed sanctions on 24 clubs, constituent bodies and individuals who were found to have contravened the 2006 RBS 6 Nations ticket terms and conditions.

Then we had history being made when Colin High, The RFU’s Elite Referees manager announced  that for the first time in the Union’s history that four RFU Elite Referees would be in charge of matches during the RBS 6 Nations in 2007.

Wayne Barnes will be the referee for the opening game of the RBS 6 Nations 2007, Italy against France, with Tony Spreadbury (France v Wales) Dave Pearson (Scotland v Ireland) and Chris White (Italy v Wales) completing the four.     RFU ELITE REFEREES

Will Greenwood and Richard Hill were signing copies of The Official England Rugby Miscellany book

Can you name the four England players to have played Super 12 rugby?

Did you know that the oldest player ever to win first England cap was nearly 39 or that the most unlucky was Graham Dawe?

Or that England’s most capped player is also the only England player to have played for over 4,000 minutes without scoring a try?

No?.... well its all in the book! England Rugby Miscellany Book

And then we had the RFU launching a NEW Youth Membership, with a new website from the 1st of December - The Junior Supporters Club (JSC) is just the thing for young England rugby fans.

The Junior Supporters Club (JSC) website contains unique content presented in a fun and educational manner. New interactive mascots offer tips and training drill suggestions for budding players, and for those new to the game the rules of rugby are explained. Directions are also given to help fans find their nearest club, so all the theory can be put to the test in a game of tag rugby. Throughout December the new look website will be accessible to everyone on a trial basis. After that, www.rfu.com/jsc will have a guest area alongside the main members’ only site     RFU-NEW youth membership
