England lags far behind the rest of Europe in the number of bank holidays we get. A bank holiday on St George's Day would be a great opportunity for all the English (regardless of colour or religion) to recognise the things that bind us together - rather than concentrating on our differences.
Everything from cricket to curry could be celebrated on our national day.
Northern Ireland already has a bank holiday on St. Patrick's Day, the
Scottish Parliament is making St. Andrew's Day a bank holiday (click
here for details) and the Welsh Assembly agrees that St. David's Day should
be a bank holiday (click
here).
Help us to persuade the government to give England a bank holiday on St George's Day. Take the day off work on Monday, 23 April 2007. If enough of us take a holiday on the same day it will be a powerful message to those in charge.
Click here and pledge to take the day off work!
