IRB Sevens Manager, Beth Coalter said: - “The much anticipated 2007/08 Series promises to be even better. Interest in the eight Series Tournaments is already beginning to build with strong advance ticket sales for the opening events in Dubai (November 31/December 1) and South Africa (December 8/9) while with Rugby World Cup Sevens 2009 in Dubai just around the corner, the teams will be looking to hone their squads during the Series and put down a marker, which all augers for a fascinating contest on the pitch,”

When South Africa set foot on the field at the Dubai Exiles Rugby ground this year, the national team will not only be defending its title as current Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Seven’s champions, the team will also be defending their nation’s honour and pride as IRB World Cup 2007 champions. This will prove to be the first opportunity that competing nations will have to attempt over throwing South Africa as the world’s rugby super power!

The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens is not only the opening round of the IRB Sevens World Series; it is also one of the Middle East’s most popular social weekends of the year. The tournament supported by longstanding title sponsor Emirates Airline will be the first round of the 2007 - 2008 Series and takes place from 29th November to 1st December, featuring 16 of the best Sevens nations in the world.

England Sevens Coach Ben Ryan today (Friday 16/11) announced his 12 man squad who will represent England at the forthcoming IRB World Seven Series tournament in Dubai.

According to Ryan, the squad is a combination of young talent and experience with lots of potential. Players such as Sale Sharks' Andy Vilk and Ben Foden and powerful Gloucester centre Jack Adams are all experienced sevens players. For Andy this will be his third appearance at the Dubai tournament and his first as captain.

Young emerging talent, Matt Banahan, Antony Elliott, Tom Youngs, Joe Simpson and Liam Gibson will be keen to show off their skills and earn their first England caps.

With players like David Strettle, James Haskell and Nick Abendanon now holding England senior honours after being noticed in last seasons tournament, it's a very exciting time for this squad, if these young players can perform and impress they have every chance of following in their predecessors' footsteps.

Ben Ryan said, "This seasons squad will start as underdogs against the top four sides in the world series. New and unproven, the squad has players with immense potential to move through into the very top of the senior game.. It's time now for these players who have been identified as having this to step up and put potential into actual. It's a hugely exciting time."
