Twickenham Underground Disruption for Eng v Ire

Twickenham rail/underground disruption this weekend for the England v Ireland Match. Fans going to this match must plan ahead due to engineering works on the London Underground. Also the M1 will be closed from 8pm on Saturday 15th March until 2pm on Sunday 16th March 2008 for the safe demolition of an existing bridge over the M1

NOTICE - Getting to Twickenham this Saturday

Saturday March 15th - RBS 6 Nations

 England v Ireland

15:00 Kick Off

Estimated Attendance 82,000

Due to engineering works taking place on the London Underground, the District Line between West Kensington and Acton Town / Richmond will not be in operation for this event.

The Piccadilly Line is also closed between Hammersmith and Acton Town.

Alternatives

South West trains are running their normal enhanced match day service to and from Twickenham and surrounding stations.

The London Overground service (formerly Silverlink metro) will be running as normal from Richmond to North London between 06.45 and 2300hrs .

The Piccadilly Line will be running from Heathrow to Acton Town for a link to the District Line to Ealing Broadway and connections to the Central Line.

The District Line will be operating a full service to Wimbledon where there are connections for the SW train service to Twickenham.

Local buses will be running as normal, as will the RFU shuttle buses to Richmond and Hounslow town centres.

THE M1

The RFU have been advised that the M1 will be closed from 8pm on Saturday 15th March until 2pm on Sunday 16th March 2008 for the safe demolition of an existing bridge over the M1.

The M1 will be fully closed -

Southbound at Redbourn (Junction 9) where traffic will leave the M1 along a clearly signed diversion route, via Hemel Hempstead, the A41 and M25 to rejoin the M1 at Junction 6.

Northbound at Hemel Hempstead (Junction 8) where traffic will leave the M1 at Junction 8 along a local, clearly signed diversion.

Twickenham Stadium Security

The Rugby Football Union maintains a consistently high level of security around Twickenham Stadium. With consultation with the police, security at the stadium remains high and people, bags and vehicles will be subject to search upon arrival.

Visitors are requested to be patient and to allow time before the start of the event for these necessary checks to be undertaken.

Every year, they must look at the Twickenham fixture list and pick out the weekends to cause the most disruption.

Exactly the same thing happened with the Piccadilly Line either last season, or the season before.

You get the feeling that the Mayor is taking it out on rugby fans.

BRW - I thought you upper-class supporters all came in by private chopper, and left public transport to the Rugby League boys.winking smiley

Well, we do have a rabble that I think must have defected from other clubs. We'll take their money but cut them dead socially!
