England Under -18 Tournament Squad
Having won the title two season running England had to settle for third place last season, after they were defeated by Ireland, which means that they begin the 30-team tournament with a Pool A game against Georgia in Mogliano on Sunday March 16 (3.30pm GMT).
If England can survive the expected tough physical challenge from Georgia they will then play either Ireland or Russia in San Dona Dipiavae on March 19. The final is in Treviso on March 22 with holders France, who beat Ireland in penalty kick competition last season, again expected to mount another strong challenge.
Graham Whitmore Lead Coach ( who will be stepping down after this tournament) said: "We have had very limited time to work with what is a young and inexperienced squad." "Very few of the squad played international rugby at 16-Group level so this is a new experience for them. "But they have responded very well, they have shown a willingness to learn from the mistakes that were made in the warm-up games. "They have endeavoured to improve their own performances and the collective performance of the team as well.
"I think they now realise that there are very fine margins between success and otherwise, in particular the mental strength that is required to stand up to pressures that they might not have experienced before. "They are getting better and better with each game they play and I know that they will be in confident mood when we fly to Italy on Thursday."

Quote:England will be attempting to avenge a narrow defeat by Italy in last season's competition which denied them a hat-trick of titles. Ireland went on to lose to France in a kicking contest after the scores were level and England went into the third-place play-off.
