RBR Fuji Friday Update
By Ian Lockwood October 10 2008
Red Bull Racing Report on the Friday Free Practice sessions ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix being held at the Fuji Speedway. Red Bull Drivers Mark Webber and David Coulthard are poles apart on whether the circuit is fun to drive - an opinion that appears to be reflected in their compartive speed.

Car 10 MARK WEBBER, 1st Practice P13, 2nd Practice P6

"That was a good Friday for us. We enjoyed some dry weather today, which is an improvement on last year! It's enjoyable to drive the track - it's got some technical and frustrating corners, but we just have to get on with that. We've done our race preparation today, we'll work hard tonight and do the qualifying tomorrow. All in all, not too bad."

Car 9 DAVID COULTHARD, 1st Practice P19 2nd Practice P17

"I had low grip through the last sector, which meant the car had a lot of oversteer and was sliding. There is a contrast in coming here from somewhere like Singapore, which is a challenge and fun to drive. This track includes blind apexes and off camber corners. It doesn't matter if you're a racing driver or a punter, a nice corner is a nice corner, and they tend to be ones where you see into them, or it's banked and you ride the corner. In contrast, you don't normally see them here before you're on them, or it's off camber so the car slides at the rear. It looks good on TV, but these cars don't generate high levels of slip angle and go fast, so it means you lose some lap time - but that's the challenge of this circuit."

without trying to inflame the DC supporters here but isn't DC making a meal out of his slack friday times? i know it is only friday practice but he seems to be putting up an argument that doesn't seem to explain his lack of speed relative to MW and setting the tone if he doesn't make it through to Q3.
when all said and done both cars are identical aren't they?

Ask DC, He drove very well!

But honestly, there could be some setup issue with DC as yet. He'll get on top of it. The times are normally only a maximum of about 0.3sec apart...

Off camber, bumpy and blind corners are great sad smiley

It is very close. Really only 1 second between them all. Never has F1 been closer.
It is not as if DC is seconds behind Webber, but......

Quick question - why are the tyres green? Are they left-overs from Singapore, with fluorescent paint?
