England v Uruguay - Match Report:

England recorded their first century against Uruguay!

England ran out winners against a proud battling Uruguay.  Uruguay did not give up and again like many other so called 'minnows', played their hearts out on the field against England.

This match saw Jason Leonard getting his 110th cap as a prop for England ( which is an amazing feat)!  Lewsey getting 5 tries, Greenwood coming on in the second half looking  back to his usual sharpness and Jason Robinson showed his speed once again. Catty looking re-juvenated to the point of magic, and Gomarsall playing so well that surely he deserves a start against Wales next weekend?

Uruguay gave their all and after 25mins were encamped in the England 5meter area attempting a push over try, they worked their socks off in the attempt but came away with nothing.  England's defence holding but that was a period of intense pressure from the Uruguayans, that showed they have the muscle to take on England in the pack.

Danny Grewcock played his first game after breaking a toe and then within this match going onto break a hand!  This in turn led to the call up of Simon Shaw(Wasps) - who headed straight down under to join up with the England Camp.  Many would say he should have been there from the outset - that is as maybe but he is out there now and we wish him and Danny luck for the rest of the competition.

Match Facts:   England ran in 17 tries by Moody (1), Lewsey (5), Balshaw (2), Catt (2), Gomarsall (2), Luger(1), Abbott (1), Robinson (2),  Greenwood (1),  and 13 Conversions.    Uruguay had three penalties awarded in the first half got two and missed the other.  Second half they scored a superb try by Lemoine and the try was converted by Menchaca.

Final Score:  England 111 v Uruguay  13
