Australia v England Match Review - Australia 51 - England 15
Congratulations to the Qantas Wallabies you were superb today - back right up were you belong as no doubt the No1 team in the world. That of course is my opinion and I am sure many Kiwis would disagree!
Well what can one say, other than the England Rugby Team, Sir Clive Woodward and all the England coaching staff were taught a lesson today as to how to play first phase rugby, score tries, not turnover ball and win with style!
England looked sharp at times during the match and one or two players did turn on a little style to create our tries but overall we were sloppy!
Basic rugby skills let us down. Too many penalties, turnovers and individual players going forward and nobody their to support them. Too many attempts to pass the ball out of the tackle instead of going down and setting up the play again. Handling errors you name it we had it all today!
Some positives we did put pressure on their line out at times and the scrum looked good. Dawson looked really sharp and creative when he came on. Voyce looked like lightening when he got the ball, some good tackles made by Tindall. However, overall we need a big re-think and Sir needs to come up with some new ideas plus re-visit the basics.
Australia: 51
Tries: Rathbone 3, Paul 2, Tuqiri
Cons: Roff 2
Pens: Roff 5
England: 15
Tries: Hill, Dallaglio
Con: Hodgson
Pen: Hodgson
The Wallabies on the other hand looked on fire and of course we know that perhaps they wanted this win more but even so! They looked so at ease with the ball and the gaps that opened up for them, well they did what all good teams do and make the opposition pay! Excellent, exciting rugby and very worthy winners. The ability of the backs to cut the line was wonderful to watch.
I am not down heartened very much because we have been beaten on the day by a wonderful team and England like Lawrence said can learn from this. What worries me a little is Lawrence not that he is not strong - but this is the second time now he has shown emotional tears and I feel that all captains must get the better of that side of their emotions to lead well.
Once again well done the Wallabies.
