England - RFU Promises more tickets!

The RFU have listened to what the locals have said and scaled down their original plan for the redevelopment of the stadium. Redevelopment of the stadium will see Twickenham's capacity increase from 75,000 to 85,000 seat bowl design by 2007. The revised planning application will not delay the scheduled start for the work in June 2005 - subject to permission being granted.

At present Twickenham residents receive 50 England tickets per match however, the Rugby Football Union will now be making more England tickets available to locals as part of the community package agreed for the new revised 70m redevelopment of Twickenham Stadium.

Twickenham local residents will now get 400 tickets per match. The RFU are also going to give £2.5m to Richmond Council for various projects in the local area. These include improvements to public transport, road signs, CCTV and reducing the impact of development to the local area. Money has also been set aside for improvements to Twickenham town centre.

The RFU have listened to what the locals have said and scaled down the original plan for the redevelopment of the stadium. The number of hotel rooms has been reduced from 200 to 156 and only 105 rooms will be looking out onto Whitton Road. The corporate hospitality accommodation has been removed as has the plan for 200 vehicle underground car park. The health club will be smaller along with a new RFU shop, but the conference and exhibition facilities will cover a much wider area.
