Lions Tour 2005 - Rugby Tour Contacts

Unofficial England Rugby has been contacted by Waihi Athletic Rugby Football Club: affiliated to Thames Valley Rugby Union in New Zealand.

Their Secretary Alice Berry has asked if we could put her in contact with any rugby fans who may be touring and would like to arrange a game of rugby whilst out in New Zealand.

Here is Alice's request:-

"With the Tour to New Zealand coming up next year, and with the Lions team playing a game in Hamilton, which is only one hours drive from Waihi.  Our Club would like to investigate the possibility of a group of supporters coming to Waihi and playing a social game of rugby and having some 'time out' in our really neat town".

"Waihi has a open cast gold mine right in the centre of it, beaches to die for within 10 minutes drive and a very special group of people who play and love rugby".

Now we are sure that there will be many fans travelling out to New Zealand to support the Lions so if you would like to arrange something with Waihi Athletic RFC then please contact

Waihi is an ideal stop en-route between Auckland and Tauranga or when travelling to the Coromandel Peninsula from Rotorua.  Waihi is one of the most famous gold mining towns in New Zealand, the history of this pioneering period is apparent everywhere. It differs though from other parts of the region in that still today a rich goldmine is in full production, hiding behind leafy slopes behind the main street.   For much more information on the town and area follow the link below.
