Mike who is on a peace-keeping tour of Cyprus (without the tanks), is directly to the right of Jason.  His colleagues in the picture are also tank commanders with the QRH Armoured Regiment although this is a quiet tour compared to most Mike said. " it still means Christmas away from home though.   As a morale boost, the Army booked Jason to visit and spread good cheer.

Jason did just that, he spent time with the troops and even took the local team (Nicosia) for a training session.  The side was made up of Soldiers and ex-pats, and the presence of such an influential player was greatly appreciated by all.    But for Mike the highlight, was the two hours of relaxed chat with the most capped player in the World, this is what Mike had to say......

"I am a soldier serving in Cyprus at the moment and we were lucky enough, (as it is Christmas) to be visited by the legend, Jason Leonard last Wednesday. He did the usual ”hand shaking” and signing and that evening was invited to the Sergeants Mess, where he stood chatting to our select group for around two hours. What an excellent bloke he is. Bought him a drink, talked about everything. Such a pleasure to find a professional sportsman who has served his country so ably, yet kept both feet squarely planted on the ground. He is an inspirational guy who enjoys life to the full, but still has time for the supporters and has never forgotten the amateur roots of the sport that he loves.  I have attached a photo, taken on that memorable evening".

Great to see such a great site, being run by women passionate about the game. Keep up the good work and Merry Christmas.

May we take this opportunity at www.unofficialenglandrugby to thank Tank Commander MikeM and his colleagues for the brave and wonderful work they do and also wish them and their families a very happy and safe Christmas.
