Simon Amor
England
Sevens Captain Simon Amor, talks of injury, England's chances and expectations on coming
back from injury: "I'm just about back. It's been a
rough ride for three months and I've probably tried to play a bit early a couple
of times. But it's been properly diagnosed now and the rehabs gone fantastically
well. I really have to thank the medical teams who've been working on me. "Looking back a month I didn't
think I'd be here, so to be able to captain such a strong squad to a World Cup
is fantastic and I think we have a chance of winning it. on
England's chances: "We're defending champions, we've
won it for the last three years and it's kind of a home from home for us. "On paper we've probably got the
strongest 12 we can get out in Sevens. Obviously there are players in the senior
set-up it would have been fantastic to get, but in terms of the Sevens players
who play regularly this is as good as it gets. on players
making a difference and expectations: "We've got a huge amount of pace,
apart from myself - I'm probably the slowest man here! - but with Ugo Monye and
Richard Haughton, player of the tournament here last year, we've got a lot of
wheels on our side and it's one of our key strengths and what the opposition
fear about England. "Pat's [Sanderson] been fantastic
this year for Worcester, and for us in the Sevens when he's played, and to have
Henry Paul back, who on his day is probably the best Sevens player there is at
the moment, is just great - two key strengths for us. "Our main ambition is definitely
to win here. It's been our main aim for the last year to be honest, so we've
targeted this, and that's reflected in the squad picked, and the amount of
preparatation that's gone into this."
