England Rugby Union Tickets and Twickenham Update!

England will be playing their opening game of the 2006 RBS Six Nations at Twickenham on the  4th February against the current Grand Slam holders Wales.  I am sure we would like to wish them the very best of luck.

July 2005 saw the demolition of the old South Stand at Twickenham to make way for new development.. This has meant a drastic reduction in allocation of seats to the RFU clubs up and down the country.

Our resident reporter Barney Burnham, was at Twickenham this week and took the opportunity to speak to the head of Health and Safety, who told him that they're 'very confident' that 5,000 seats in the South Stand will be in place and operational for the Wales game and possibly more for the Ireland match.  Apparently, clubs have already been alerted about the possibility of more tickets coming on stream, at £48 a time.  ( update Barney reports 19/1/06 that it looks almost certain for the 5000 seats for the Wales game)

So those RFU members it might be worthwhile checking with your clubs again for any extra allocation that may be had.

The new South Stand will complete the stadium bowl bringing the capacity of the stadium up to 82,000 and will include a Marriott hotel, conference and exhibition space, a Virgin Active Health and Fitness Club, Office Space for the Union and a new RFU Rugby Store.

How it is looking so far!

England Head Coach Andy Robinson OBE this week nominated Twickenham Stadium as an icon of England in a new search for the most powerful symbols of English life.    Speaking on his nomination that the home of England Rugby is included in the list, Robinson explained,

"Twickenham Stadium is not only one of the greatest stadiums in the country but is the true home of England Rugby.  It is every player's dream to play at the stadium and it holds a very special place in my heart.  Players from all over the world look forward to playing at Twickenham and I believe it deserves to be recognised as one of the icons of England."
