Phoenix 17-7 Doncaster

James Mallender

January 22 2007
Roth had a welcome break from the league to help them return to competitive action after a two week break. And they enjoyed a composed performance which helped to ease a few long term injury and suspension victims back into the side.

The first half saw Roth playing into a slight breeze but just edge the half thanks to a converted try from hat trick man James Mallender. Whilst never getting fully into their stride Roth played some decent rugby with praise going to Richard Spafford making his first start at prop.

The second half began badly with Roth conceding an early try, however a superb response immediately afterwards saw the backs produce some excellent handing for the move of the game, to enable winger James Mallender to score his second try of the match in the corner.

Rotherham went on to then dominate the game without ever really putting the points on the board. The final try and for his hat trick saw a superb individual effort as Mallender broke 3 tackles on the wing to touch down.

The result leaves Roth unbeaten in the 5 games and ready for a tough league run in with all the top teams still to play and all to play for.
