Although he speaks with a very English accent, Kevin Maggs has been playing inside centre for Ireland for six years now. Although it's been a battle to keep his place, with the wonderful Rob Henderson his main contender for the right to partner Brian O'Driscoll, Maggs had a wonderful 2002/2003 season - and even managed to sneak the Man Of The Match award against Fiji in the Autumn Internationals.
It cannot be easy for the English born man in green, being the "other Ireland centre", but Kevin Maggs has come into his own. He tends to play outside centre for his club, Bath, so he isn't lacking in pace or bravery. At 12 for Ireland he is dominant and plays a wonderful supporting role to the genius of O'Driscoll, his defence outstanding and attacking strong. Winning 50 caps is a testament to him and his commitment to the Ireland team, and at times he has overshadowed the constantly-praised O'Driscoll.
