Anthony Foley is now a familiar face in the Ireland pack as he approaches his 50th cap. He has captained the side before and is still in charge of the pack. It took awhile for him to establish his place in the side, losing his place during the 1995/1996 season and turning out for the "A" team more often than not. He only went on to win 3 caps in that year. During the 1999/2000 season he re-established his place and has since only missed one game, which was due to resting for a summer tour game in 2000 against the United Saints.
His first captaincy came in November 2001 when Ireland played Samoa (he became their sixth captain within the year) and also took up the reins of leadership for the World Cup qualifiers against Romania and Georgia during the 2002/2003 season. For Munster, he turns out regularly and consistently plays well at number 8.
