The Bee Hive - Directions & Info

Directions & Info

Sharmans Cross Road, originally home to Solihull RUFC before the amalgamation is situated just on the outskirts of Solihull within two minutes of the town centre.

Click here for a map to Sharmans Cross Road.

Sharmans Cross Road is a small ground set in suburban Solihull (South of Birmingham). It is just five miles from the motorway, next to Solihull train station, and has good bus links with Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The Bees’ relative success over the past few years has meant that the Bees have had to consider moving from their relatively basic abode. Sharmans Cross Road has one large stand situated on the half way line, providing 1000 covered seats for fans. Also dotted around the ground are covered standing terracing. Bees have been considering moving to Damson Park, home of Solihull Borough Football Club. This is a brand new stadium near the airport, and the general fans view is that this could be the answer. Bees also own Portway. This is very close to the motorway, near Redditch. This was home to Birmingham Rugby Club. Portway is a massive Sixways style location with immense potential. However, it is just potential. Nothing has been done with Portway, leaving it very under-developed.

Where to sit or stand:

At Sharmans Cross, you have the option to sit in the new 1000 seater stand. This costs slightly more money which must be paid on the gate. I prefer to stand on the other side (the dugout side). The three terrace standing places are an option, as is standing by the bar which seems to be quite a popular option. The ground is very open, so you can walk round all the parts of the ground.

Other features:

The main food option is a burger van which is generally reasonably priced. This is inside the ground, next to the clubhouse, and the toilets have been recently refurbished.

Generally the disabled access is very good purely because the ground is so open. Wheelchairs can easily get around everywhere and the ground is tarmacked in most areas.

Pubs to visit:

Sharmans Cross Road has a recently refurbished bar area, and with very reasonably priced drinks and a large screen, it’s the place to be!

The Sharmans Cross is an alternative. It's a nice place, recently refurbished and within five minutes walk of the ground. It's located on the Sharmans Cross Road.

Restaurants:

The Sharmans Cross Pub does pub food, if you don't want to go anywhere too far.

In Solihull you can visit Touchwood, our new Shopping Mall. This has its own Restaurant Centre including Pizza Hut, Nandos, Wagamamma, TGIs, Burger King and a cinema.

On the way to Sharmans Cross Road (from A34 Jct 4) is a number of restaurants. The Fieldhouse is on the Stratford Road on the left hand side, and offers traditional beefeater style food. Next to that is Jefferson's. This is a traditional American restaurant and looks very impressive. This place appears very posh but does good food, and often with good deals. Further up on the right is The Plume of Feathers. This is a Carvery Restaurant and a pub. This is within twenty minutes walk of Sharmans Cross Road.

You'll also find many other restaurants in the town centre. You can't go wrong in Solihull town centre.

Directions:

Car: Leave M42 at Junction 4, and head towards Birmingham along the A34. When in Shirley town centre, turn right into Solihull Road (near a Morrisions, Iceland and Burger King). After about half a mile, go over Sharmans Cross Roundabout (pub on your right hand side), and after another half a mile, you will see the ground.

Rail: Go to Solihull and Sharmans Cross Road is a short walk away.

Bus: From Solihull town centre, catch the number 41 bus.

Did you know:

Solihull RUFC and Sharmans Cross Road was where Martin Johnson first watched rugby. He lived on Solihull Road just five minutes from the ground and his father took him to watch Solihull play. He said that he was "thoroughly unimpressed with fat blokes rolling around in the mud".

What to do with the other half (male or female!):

There's no shortage of shopping opportunities in Solihull with the brand new shopping mall, Touchwood. This place is enormous and really adds to Solihull town centre. It also has very nice leather sofas.

You can also catch a train to Moor Street Train Station from Solihull. This takes just 12 minutes and is just 2 minutes from The Bull Ring at the other end. This is also very impressive. In Birmingham you can do many things and there are art galleries, restaurants and lots of other interesting places.
