Pertemps Bees made it four straight wins in their pre-season friendlies with a 29-26 victory over Pontypridd at Sardis Road.

It was by far the most demanding game of the season against a strong and physical Welsh Premier Division side but they came through with flying colours.

Bees trailed 12-26 at half-time and were still 17-26 behind with 10 minutes to go but tries from Paul Knight and Martin O'Keefe gave them victory.

Pontypridd were outscored five tries to two by the Bees who ran or kicked to touch all their penalties. In contrast the Welshmen kicked at goal regularly  landing three penalties and two tries.

Bees other tries came from former Leeds and Queensland outside half ( five eighth for the Aussies amonst us)Tim Walsh, who also kicked two conversions, and centres Scott Williams and Shaun Woof.

Boss Phil Maynard said "It was a great credit to the players the way they stood up to such a physical side and kept their cool against a "homer" Welsh ref."

"It was a good opportunity to get the players battle-hardened before our opening league game at Henley."
