Bees Buzz Into Newcastle

Pertemps Bees have named a 29-man squad for Saturday’s pre-season friendly against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park (kick-off 6pm). The Powergen Cup semi-finalists’ director of rugby, Phil Maynard, said: "It's a great honour for the club to be involved in such a prestigious fixture. "There will be a sizable crowd to see the return of our World Cup hero Jonny Wilkinson in his first full game since he had his operation. "He will be back to full fitness and keen to impress in front of his home crowd. There are very few frailties in Jonny's game. We don't expect him to give it anything less than 100 per cent, and it could be a difficult game for us. "But we enjoyed our trip to Newcastle last year. They looked after us superbly and the players from both clubs got on well. “It's a fixture that we are delighted to have and it's the sort of hard physical test that we need ahead of our league season.” Maynard has named a 29-strong squad for the game which includes three triallists - former Coventry and Rugby Lions winger Roman Pitrowski, Gloucester tighthead prop Emyr Lewis and former Bristol back-row forward Ben Gerry. The only absentees are full-back Dave Knight (knee) and lock Alex Davidson who will not play before Christmas because of a shoulder injury which he sustained at Newcastle last March. Pertemps Bees are unbeaten in pre-season friendlies so far having accounted for Stourbridge, Moseley, Llandovery and Pontypridd in the last three weeknds. Pertemps Bees squad to face Newcastle Falcons: Backs: Paul Knight, Tom Richardson, Tim Walsh, Mark Woodrow, Nick Baxter, Roman Pitrowski, Aaron Takarangi, Mike Davies, Shaun Woof, Simon Martin, Lenny Woodard, Scott Williams. Forwards: Jim Thorp, Matt Long, Matt Miles, Martin O'Keefe, Rob Merritt, Alan Hubbleday, Rob Hurrell, Ed Orgee, Dan Zaltzman, Rob Walton, Hese Fakatou, Gavin Pfister, Jim Jenner, Nathan Carter, Duncan White, Emyr Lewis, Ben Gerry.
