The month of September has proved to be particularly fruitful for Phil Maynard and his team after managing to not drop a point this month, thus going into October top of the tree. Last season a similar thing happened but a good cup run proved to be the downfall as the Bees lost their first place after tough games against Worcester and Orrell and a poor loss at London Welsh. This year could possibly be more of the same. Bees have some tough October games including Plymouth, Bristol and also unbeaten Rotherham.

Bees will be hoping for an almost full strength line up for this weekends match against Otley. Last year the Otley front row tore the Bees apart with far superior scrummaging positions giving them penalty after penalty. Bees will have to watch out for the half back twins. Messrs Scully and Binns have played more times than I've had hot dinners and know every trick in the book. It will be important for captain Paul Knight to stifle Scully.

Steve McCormacks Preview

Pertemps Bees play at Sharmans Cross Road for only the second time this season. They return home, still unbeaten, sitting top of the league with maximum points. It is fair to say though that they have not had the most difficult of fixtures to date and Otley will probably be a reasonable test.

Before Sunday, the Bees had been winning with ease, but they were brought back down to earth with a very hard fought victory at lowly Orrell, Nick Baxter’s try ten minutes from the end separating the teams.

After their heavy loss at home to Bedford, Otley got back to winning ways with a comfortable win at Sedgley Park last Saturday leaving them in sixth place, on the heels of the leading group.

Victories went to both home sides last season and the spoils have been shared at Sharmans Cross Road with three wins to each team since 1998. Early season form should see the Bees home.

Steve's Prediction: Bees to win by 10 points

My prediction: 34-15 to Bees
