The first twenty minutes was very one way with Bees being camped in their own twenty two for the entirety, but Bristol only came away with 5 points from rather predictably a pushover try.
They made their intentions very clear, very early on. A kick to touch, good catch and a superb push-over meant that within minutes Bristol had scored a very impressive try which former Bee Mark Woodrow struggled to get within ten metres of the try line!
For the next twenty five minutes Boring Bristol (as some of the fans dubbed them) attempted this catch and drive so many times, but each time the Bees defence was equal to it. The Bees forwards coped with the pressure so very well to defend such a strong and co-ordinated move and they deserve a lot of credit for their performance.
This was a turning point really. For the rest of the game, the Bees were equal to their south western counterparts, and some strong defencive performances and strong attacks meant that the rest of the game was relatively balanced with both sets of forwards coming out on top.
It was unfortunate that Bees didn't actually land a score but this was mostly due to some solid Bristol defending and some errors in the handling. Some of the handling in the attacks was particularly poor especially from Jim Jenner who seemed to drop everything thrown at him. Perhaps this was in an attempt to pass out of the tackle but retaining the ball is far more important.
Bristol added to their try with two penalties from the seemingly golden boot of Mark Woodrow. He hit some good penalties and hit some great kicks from hand in open play.
They then got another pushover try to make it 16-0 before rounding off the precedings with a long range interception which was a knock-on by miles, according to a Bristol fan!
Can't remember who got the man of the match award but Martin O'Keefe played very well in defence and was integral to maintaining the low scoreline. Ben Hughes played well in the backrow as did Nathan Carter. Mike Davies had another solid defensive game and the lineout functioned well again.
