Nottingham 33 - 14 Bees
By Sarah Tunney
April 4 2005
Bees slumped to their eighth defeat in a row after losing to Nottingham. Looking on the bright side, we got a nice tan and helped the new Nottingham Bar maid get lots of practice!

After a not too bad performance last weekend there was some positive thinking from the travelling bees fans, however, once again we were left disappointed after another frustrating game.

After five minutes we trailed as the Nottingham scrum half, Kevin Brennan went over for the first try of the game which was converted, followed by further trys from Josh Lay and blood replacement Ben Thompson. When the Bees had possession we struggled to make anything come of it and went in at half time disappointingly 19 - 0 down.

There seamed to be an improvement in the second half with the Bees having more ball. However, the Nottingham defence was well organised and didn’t crack under the pressure, leaving the Bees frustrated at being unable to turn possession into points.

“We had 16 phases when Nottingham did not touch the ball once and then they scored with their next touch.” Maynard told local press,

After the break Nottingham built the lead still putting more points on the board through and getting the bonus point as Nic Fitisemanu went over for the fourth try.

However, not all the Bees possession was wasted. Takarangi looked to have scored in the corner to only have the try disallowed so answered back by going over the line once again. It looked like a difficult angle for Walsh to converted but he placed it over with ease and the Bees got 7 points on the board.

Nottingham replied with a Warren Coles intercepted try. There were calls from the Bees of off-side but the ref rewarded the try which was converted.

The Bees ended the game on a positive note as Nick Baxter went over for the second try and his 140th try of his career. Walsh again got the conversion with the last kick of the game.
