Green King IPA Championship

Round 6 Preview

Cornish Pirates and London Scottish will both be looking to bounce back from defeats when they meet at the Mennaye Field on Friday evening in the 6th round of the Greene King IPA Championship. Pirates suffered only their second loss of the season in all competitions when they crashed to a 41-6 defeat at the hands of fellow 2012 Championship finalists London Welsh at the Kassam Stadium.

Scottish, meanwhile, were thankful to escape with a losing bonus point after Jim Thomson crossed for a try late on against Rotherham, who surged up to second in the table as a result of their gutsy 24-23 win at The Athletic Ground. Last season's matches finished with very little between the sides, the Exiles claiming the double over the Pirates thanks to a 20-17 win in the Duchy.

On the same evening, the bottom two sides face each other as Ealing entertain Moseley at Vallis Way. After a difficult start to life in the Championship Ealing are showing definite signs of improvement, as was evident in last Sunday's televised clash against Bedford Blues when they held a two-point interval lead over their esteemed hosts before going on to lose 31-14. Like Ealing, Moseley are still searching for their first win of the campaign.

Saturday's double-bill features high-flying Rotherham Titans v Jersey and Plymouth Albion at home to Bristol Rugby. Garry Law scored 29 points in a thumping 54-31 win for the Titans in last season's corresponding fixture, while Jersey won the return match 13-10. Rotherham have scored 25 tries to date to Jersey's nine.

Bristol are on an 11-match winning run against Plymouth Albion. Albion completed an early season 'double' over Jersey in the last round of fixtures, while Bristol made it six straight wins in all competitions with a five-try, 33-18 success over Nottingham.

Sunday's fare comes from Leeds and Nottingham. Third-placed Carnegie will aim to make it five league wins on the bounce against London Welsh, the current table-toppers, while Nottingham welcome Bedford to Meadow Lane in a repeat of last year's semi-final.

London Welsh won on their last visit to Headingley Carnegie: a 26-13 win in September 2011. Bedford won three of last season's four meetings with Nottingham, who are without a win in all competitions since beating Leeds on the opening day.
