2015/16 GK IPA Fixtures

By Ml
June 22 2015

AFTER the dramatic finish to the 14/15 campaign, preparations for the new season are now well underway

2015/16 Greene King IPA Championship fixtures revealed

Commenting on the 2015/16 season, Chairman of the Championship Clubs Geoff Irvine said: "We saw last season just what an exciting competition the Championship is and that, along with the quality of rugby, has continued to grow every year since the league's inception in 2009. The league also remains an excellent competitive environment for English qualified players to learn their trade.

"There are some fascinating clashes in the opening round and beyond and I for one am eager to see how the season unfolds. If we learned anything from last season, it's that anything can happen in this league and that will make for some pretty engaging and exciting rugby to come.”

I'm assuming we're staying with Sundays for all our home games?

I can't believe that management will be pleased with only four home League fixtures in the New Year. That won't be good for cashflow.

Surely a lot will depend on the B&I Cup pool fixtures and how they fall as far as home/away. Cash flow up to end of year as far as the League is concerned should be pretty positive.

I believe the management stated that we are going to play 4 home games on a Saturday the same as last year.

I'd suggest that the 4 homes games are reserved for those teams with the largest attendances. This would encourage more away fans to travel down. Bris can get there and back on a Sunday.

I thought that clubs used to have some input before the fixtures were finalised. I assume that no longer happens and the RFU just impose the fixtures without any consultation?

No the fixtures are discussed by the club's in the championship. I'm not aware of any RFU input.

Why boxing day? Many Pirate supporters attend thier local derby and enjoy a family get together. Unless you live in Penzance its impossible to get there, any other day in the Xmas week there is transport.

Pirate Fred, I don't think this will take place for various other reasons as well, the travelling Jersey supporters and the team itself, most of the hotels will be fully booked because of Xmas and getting flights there and back might also prove both difficult and expensive.

clubs do have input. the vast majority wanted boxing day fixtures featuring local derbies - this request was taken on board by the organising committee and incorporated in the list. there are 5 fairly neat pairs for dec 26/27, but pirates and jersey were the odd ones out, with pirates having lost their local rivals albion, and jersey's local rivals guernsey being at a lower level since the mid-90s. so the two clubs were paired together. you can't please all the people all the time...

Does the Jersey game have to be played on Boxing Day or can the home Club vary this provided it's played over the same weekend?

What you have to look at here is that the following week we play Rotherham away on either 1/2/3 January. Now if Rotherham choose to play on the Friday, which is a bank holiday, then we almost certainly have to play on Boxing Day to give the players a decent break between fixtures. If, however, Roth say Saturday then its possible we will play on the Sunday against Jersey.

Why not wait until the club decides the day they feel is best before getting knickers in a twist about Boxing Day.?

Perhaps its just me, but boxing day fixtures at Penzance is a big cannot get there issue.
No transport so will attend a 'real derby match' within a reasonable get to distance and stil be able to have lunch with the family.

The club has confirmed the fixtures for this season. The majority of league games are on a Sunday including the Xmas fixture against Jersey(27th). 2 games are on a Saturday against Bristol in October and Moseley in March. The B&I games are yet to be agreed.
