B&I Cup Quarter-Finals Preview - Weekend March 11/13th 2016

B&I Cup Quarter-Finals Preview

Friday March 11
Bedford Blues v Jersey, kick-off 7.45pm

Saturday March 12
Leinster 'A' vs London Welsh, kick-off 7pm

Sunday March 13
Cornish Pirates v Doncaster Knights, kick-off 3pm
Yorkshire Carnegie v Moseley, kick-off 3pm

From promotion to top four contenders in two years, Doncaster Knights continued their remarkable journey in the Greene King IPA Championship last weekend after their play-off place was confirmed.

And as the league takes a fortnight's break, they will bid to remain on track for more silverware at The Mennaye as the British & Irish Cup returns this weekend.

The Knights were finalists last year before losing to Worcester Warriors and, after losing just once in the pool stages, it is hard to look past them again.

They take on a Cornish Pirates side that picked up 23 points of a possible 30 in Pool 4, though Doncaster have beaten them five times out of five since being promoted to the Championship in 2013/14.

There are two other all-Championship ties this weekend as an incredible seven teams from the league make up the eight quarter-final berths.

On Friday night, Bedford Blues host Jersey after consolidating third-place in the Championship with a 33-24 victory over Ealing Trailfinders last time out.

They must be wary of Jersey pair Tom Howe and Uili Kolo'ofai, who have shown an eye for the try-line with five scores each in the British & Irish Cup so far.

And Jersey have already emerged triumphant from Goldington Road this year, having beaten the Blues 25-18 last month.

Moseley may be bottom of the Championship, but they head to Yorkshire Carnegie still in contention for a trophy on Sunday.

Moseley sneaked into the quarters after finishing second to Leinster A in Pool 1 while Carnegie were the top performing Championship team in the pool stages – collecting 26 points in total.

It will be the second time in two weeks the teams have played each other, as Carnegie took away a 28-12 win in Round 18 of the Championship.

Last but not least, London Welsh will travel to Donnybrook and take on Leinster A, who were simply unstoppable in the pool stages.

The Irish province only dropped one possible point, while the Exiles finished runners-up to the Pirates in Pool 4.

But Welsh prepared in the best possible fashion by beating Rotherham Titans 32-16 last week, stretching out their Championship winning streak to three games.
