Moir agrees to twin role with Lions
By Coventry Telgraph April 28 2008
RUGBY Lions have made their first major signing for next season with Scotland international Craig Moir joining from Bedford as player-coach. The 34-year-old former Northampton winger was in the running for a move to the National Division Three North club last summer before offered a one-year extension to his contract at Bedford,
and is relishing a fresh challenge working with director of rugby Mark Ellis.

"Its a natural step in my career to do some coaching," said Moir, "and I still enjoy playing. I think I've got a couple of years left at a good level and I'm not quite ready yet to hang up my boots.

"I know Rugby from my time at Northampton, I've played in a few local derbies, and they seem to have quite a young and exciting team with ambition.

"There are a few familiar faces there - Matt Price and Shaun Brady joined from Bedford this season, and I played with Tom Kirk at Northampton.

"I'm not sure who's staying, I've only really sat down and sorted things out with Mal Malik, so we'll get the end of the season out of the way and see, but I'm looking forward to it.

"It's been a good season for me at Bedford, apart from picking up a bit of an injury I've been pretty much first-choice and have played in the majority of games, and I'm hoping to carry that on with Rugby."

Sad Lions chairman David Owen: "We've been keen to get hold of Craig for the last 12 months and we are delighted to now have him on board.

"He brings experience and new ideas to the club, and has played at the highest level."
