Eugene Martin signs as Pertemps Bees backs coach
By Brian Dick June 5 2008
Pertemps Bees have unveiled Eugene Martin as their first backs coach since Ben Harvey left Sharmans Cross Road last December. The former New Zealand Maori threequarter will assist Russell Earnshaw in the likely task of guiding Bees back into National One, assuming their relegation is rubber-stamped by the Rugby Football Union later this month.

Martin joins from Rotherham Titans and also worked with Earnshaw - and new Bees fly half Mark Woodrow, during the 2006-07 campaign at Doncaster Knights.

"He is a good honest guy," the head coach said. "He will bring a lot to the club. We have been very good defensively this season but I would be the first to admit our attack looked blunt.

"Rotherham had a good backs outfit this season and Eugene will improve us in that area."

Earnshaw also revealed he has bolstered his pack by signing prop Craig Voisey and second row John Harlock who join from Belfast Harlequins and Cambridge respectively.

The 23-year-old tighthead has represented Welsh Universities and the Irish Exiles and his recruitment will make up for the departure of last year's starter Pete Bucknall. There is further good news in the retention of No 8 Leo Halavatau.
