Maynard 'sorry' for Cov shocker
By John Wilkinson September 17 2008
RUGBY director Phil Maynard apologised to the travelling fans for his side's shocking first-half performance after Coventry slumped to a 34-12 defeat at neighbours Moseley. Cov, who went into the National Division One derby on the back of an outstanding 16-0 win over Cornish Pirates, shipped 27 unanswered points in the first 40 minutes at Billesley Common before salvaging some pride from .

an improved second half display.

"Poor is too kind a word for it, and I can only apologise on behalf of the team to all who travelled over to witness this," said Maynard.

"Our midfield tackling was of great concern and although we had talked about retaining possession, you have to get it first and in particular our primary possession from the line-out wasn't up to scratch."

Added Maynard: "There was bit of cockiness after last week. We'd spoken about that and stressed that we had to keep working hard because we're not good enough to be cocky, but obviously it didn't get home.

"We have got to take the fact that we 'won' the second half into the next game, but it was a poor performance."
