were swept away as the home side raced into a 27-0 lead at the break.
Coventry dumped Plan A and went to B after the break and at least competed after the restart with tries from Ollie Winter – against his old club – and Dai Maddocks but any hopes of a comeback never materialised and Moseley ended as they began when Rodwell barged his way over for the bonus-point score in injury time.
Arnold found Rodwell in midfield, which created the space for centre Jack Adams to draw the last man and feed Sharples, and Richard Vasey made it 7-0.
Three minutes later Vasey added a penalty, missed his first kick in Red and Black but was back on target to convert Arnold’s try from a close-range ruck.
Another penalty and another three points from Vasey and, with the break beckoning, Sharples went over by the posts for a simple try and conversion.
Winter touched down on the hour and with 11 minutes to go Maddocks added a second as Coventry started to look for a loss bonus but Moseley had regrouped and, when the pack took one against the head, No.8 Rodwell crashed over.
Moseley coach Smith said: “The first half we played pretty good and we got our just rewards. The second half we lost our way a little bit and Coventry came back and started to play rather than stick to a plan that was not working.
“Coventry are a good side and you would expect them to come back. Games ebb and flow and it is how you manage that and how you hold sides when they come back at you.”
He said Moseley had contained Coventry and then come back themselves to score a bonus-point try but game management and containing opposition pressure was something to be worked on.
“We will have a rest then regroup for Exeter,” added Smith.
