Rosslyn Park 53 Rugby Lions 6
By Coventry Telegraph September 29 2008
LIONS were completely outplayed by a very impressive Rosslyn Park side, who ran in five tries in a second half of virtually complete dominance. Rugby had actually gone 6-0 ahead in the first two minutes through Matt Goode penalties as Park were frequently pulled up by the referee early on. But then the Park backs showed much more fluency and penetration than Lions and their forwards

were also a far better unit than Rugby could offer.

Park's first try came from a line-out when left wing Nick Canty cut through the middle which was to prove a vulnerable area of Lions' defence.

Dylan Pugh converted and added a penalty before converting Canty's second try on 37 minutes.

By this time, Lions had seen full-back Goode yellow carded and then in added time front rows Matt Price and Park's Dan Frazier were also carded after a prolonged fight.

Half-time arrived with Rugby17-6 down, and the second half saw a succession of very incisive Park attacks creating gaps in the Lions defence while Rugby's own backs were never able to maintain their attacks for long before being smothered.

Lions will need to gather themselves for next Saturday, but they retain the ability to inflict similar damage on many of their National Division Three South opponents even if challenging the top sides now looks an unlikely prospect.
